About The Bungalow, Chicago-style
"Nearly a century after they were first built, the bungalow remains an attractive, affordable single-family housing style of choice for Chicagoans." --Chicago Mayor Richard M. Daley
This group is a collection, a record of sorts, of these beautifully simple and amazingly durable homes -- homes that helped immigrant and working class families of a multitude of races, creeds and classes feel as though they were living part of the so-called American Dream.
Today, thousands of these homes are still standing and serving their purpose, and while many have been updated or restored, a fair number have become outdated and run down throughout the Bungalow Belt. This group will celebrate, through imagery, the standard construction and unique details that made this housing style so popular in Chicagoland. Like snowflakes, no two Chicago Bungalows ever appear alike, and this group should celebrate that beauty.
