I first met Marshall at the Coco's Deep Fried Lobster meetup in 2009. After receiving the sandwich he ordered, I think because he arrived a little later, everyone started taking a photo of him and it at the same time.
Links to everyone else's photos on that page. Whenever I think of him I remember this moment and how silly it all was. Everyone was laughing.
Rest in Peace, Marshall.

Thanks for posting my photo. He will be missed by many.
I worked with a number of ex-newspapermen and they are the greatest . . . one story after the next, each one better than the last one.

Saw the extended obit while reading the Sun-Times at lunch and was shocked and saddened. Although we exchanged emails and photo comments, I regret that I never met him in person.

There's going to be a memorial service on Feb. 11 ,,, not sure where yet but it will be in downtown, most probably at the bar where he used to hang out with fellow journalists - the legendary Riccardo's, now Stefani's on Rush. I will let you know once things are finalized.

OK, the memorial service is on Feb 10 (Friday), from 6-8:30 pm, upstairs at 437 Rush. Light hors doeurves & cash bar. Anybody interested in having a group sending Marshall off, please RSVP here asap.
