The Objective

Using photography, to capture "charity and compassion in-action" or inspire "a call-for-action" within our society with the goal of increasing awareness and participation in charitable acts.

The Concept

Photography is an art that can deliver powerful messages to its viewers through images that capture the harsh reality of the pressing needs in our society. By participating, photographers will embark on a journey to discover how we, as individuals or groups, can bring charity and compassion to our community. The views and visions expressed through their images and exhibited in the competition will in turn reach a greater audience, inspiring others to become involved.

This is also an occasion to recognize talented artists. The top 3 contestants will be chosen by our panel of judges comprised of photography teachers from NYC. In addition, one People’s Choice Award will be selected through on-line voting by the viewers. Highly rated photographs will also receive honorable mentions. An award ceremony and exhibition of these photographs will be held in a gallery in NYC (Icosahedron Gallerie) at the conclusion of the competition.

8th July - Winners will be contacted
20th-22th July - Exhibition of winning photos

The Guidelines

- limit 3 photos per contestant per day. Photos will be reviewed and approved by the panel of judges before being posted to the group pool for public viewing

- photo that depict any faces must have proper consensus for permission to photograph and exhibit the images of the subjects

- professional and amateur photographers from all around the world are welcome to participate (although the exhibition will only take place in NYC)

Photos need to:

- depict the theme charity and compassion in-action or call-for-action (e.g. an image of volunteers serving food to the homeless or an empty plate signifying those without food).

- have title

- have description with "The Needs","The Action"(that was taken or can be taken to alleviate the need) and optionally "The Non-Profit Organization" that potential donors or volunteers can support for the cause (see example).

- marked with "Attribution-Non-commercial" license(http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/3.0)

- be reproducible at high resolution (300-600 DPI)

- be genuine photographic image with minimal digital editing (only colour correction or cropping is permitted)

- must be original
