Attending HOW: revisited

Okay, I'm signed up officially now. (Thanks CFCC for the extra discount!)
Let's start planning a lunch and a time to meet and greet. I'm signed up with the HOW conference forum, and its great to meet a group of people then meet up in person at the conference; It would be great to do that off this site and since we all work in some form of ministry.
I know you guys had mentioned on the other post about lunch mtg.
Lets get it going!
Now, off to find a hotel.

WESTIN! Ha, it is actually the longest walk, but I have stayed there before and I think it is the nicest. Doesn't really matter.. that whole section of Boston is really nice. I'll see you there!

We will absolutely do a CFCC round up...let's use this thread to

1. Give ideas of what we could do beyond just lunch
2. Tell us where you will be staying
3. Tell us when you arrive and depart

Then we'll pull it all together. Can't wait to see you all!

I'm staying at the Westin. I'm arriving Satruday mid-day and leaving the following Sunday mid-day.

Maybe some sort of round-table discussion about issues and SOLUTIONS we face in our market (churches). How to encourage a better process, manage expectations, take the communications of a church to the next level, work within tight budget constraints etc... just a thought.

Happy Easter, everyone! I will scope out a hotel tomorrow and get back on the list with my findings as well as the ideas. I think it will be great to have a group like this! I'm looking forward to it.

I have spent many hours trying to find a hotel that is close enough to forgo the rental car. Seems like something is going on that week that a bunch of the hotels, vacation rentals, etc. are booked up. I finally got so frustrated that my dear wife is now taking over to find us something.

Let me know if you find a good place.

I just booked at the Westin last week I think. I am guessing you are finding that all the conference hotels are booked? Of all of the ones listed, the Westin is the furthest, but its not a bad walk... all in doors through malls/catwalks.

Boston also has a wonderful Metro system. I am a young female (I was 24 when I was there before) and I felt 100% safe riding it. I even rode it at night to the airport to pick up my hubby and didn't bat an eye. I'm an experienced traveler, but still. I will be taking the Metro to my hotel this year (I paid for the cab last year since I didn't have a chance to scope it out and get a feel for how safe it was). I took a little trip to cambridge to go to some art museums. Anyway, all that to say you can buy a week pass for dirt cheep and in my opinion there is no need for a car unless you are too far from a metro stop.

I currently have a room at the Westin, and currently coming in on Sunday (though I'm considering Saturday as all the vets are saying come on Saturday)...would love to find a hotel that is more cost conscience (to justify the extra day) and yet still accessible (close to Metro perhaps)...I'm completely unfamiliar with Boston and my only other option is to be a half an hour away (which just is not really an option).

Anyone have some suggestions?

We just booked a room at Best Western Roundhouse Suites from Hotelcompany.com. It was under $200 a night and it is about 2 miles away. Might be worth your while. We looked at the Westin and way too pricey for us. This is the most money our church has put up for any one person to go to a conference. That says a lot to me.

Anyways check it out,

Not only the pricing on the hotels; but finding one now, is an issue. The main conference rooms are booked up.
holycowcreative - I'm open to splitting cost on the Westin room if you have the room and are willing.
I plan to come in on Saturday hopefully.
Let me know.

because I had stayed at the westin before, i was able to get the room for $99 a night for many of the nights I am there. if someone wants to try for that, I can find the promo code! It didn't apply to the entire stay, but definitely really helped. The convention center/conference hotels are in a very nice area and the special rate really is about 1/2 of their normal rate (that doesn't mean it is cheap though).

hahaha... HCC, ill see if i can find that. I got to thinking though that it might only be good for people extending their stay as I think the discount starts on the last day or so of the conference. I'll check.

It is funny to see the price change...you can stay at the Westin on the 24th for $99 (I think without a coupon) but on the 21st it's $220...and that's a deal!

I realize hotels hike up the prices during conferences but I was amazed that $220 was the economical route.

Wow.

So, now on to the planning stage!

Yeah, I think the westin, as well as all the other hotels listed are around 400-500 a night. Yeah. Not kidding. I've actually priced them during other times of the year (I just like Boston) and found that to be true.

The code was EMPOFR, but available May 8-12, and May 22-27

I found out that they are so high because this is the same weekend of all the college's graduations. So if I own a hotel and I know the parents of the kids from Harvard and Yale are going to be flying in...I'd triple my price too.

I currently have a room at the Marriott and Westin...so if someone still needs a room I can release the Marriott and let you know when to snatch it.

I most likely will be coming in on Sunday ...though still considering Saturday.

keep checking the westin site or try contacting the listed rep. She was able to book my reservation for me when I couldn't get the days I wanted on the website.

just checked... I am doing InDesign and Photoshop... I really hope they do "dive deep" as they say b/c even though I'm not the most advanced user ever, I often find I know most of what is taught at conferences from a technical side. I KNOW there is more to know than I know, so hoping I get it :)
