I might be interested in meeting up. So Cal didn't work for me this last Friday. A road trip/field trip to Fresno area might be fun and different. Are you looking at meeting in Fresno or along the coast? Near an Amtrak station would be cool.

Here's my first couple of ideas....
Fresno is cool and all, but I was liking the idea of a road trip. One of Fresno's best features is it's proximity to other cool places.... so I was thinking somewhere on the central coast (Pismo Beach or Monterey) or even Yosemite.... but, I'm definitely open for suggestions.
I hadn't really thought about WHAT we'd do.... thought that could be decided once we agree upon the locale.
@Courtenaylove - one "chaperone/DD" probably won't be enough.... :)

oohh.... josh, i don't have a nite brite, but I've got a pocket-size etch-a-sketch somewhere at home.... is that close enough?
-but I'm hearing Splash Cafe in Pismo Beach calling out to me, saying, "Paul, convince everyone to come and partake of my clam chowder and bread bowls, for they are life..." - or something like that. Wherever we go, I do think it would be cool to do something as a group to help church marketing not suck. I like hsojeel's picture idea...

splash cafe is cool, I am game. Done, sealed, signed, delievered. Conversly I am really happy right because I was listening to my Star Wars audio book "Legacy of the Force: Inferno" and Luke died but there is a twist that I really liked. I don't know, just kinda was in the dumps till I heard the twist.

I'm the Creative Director over at NorthPointe, hsojeel is the Communications Director at Northwest. You're at The Bridge, right? I'm pretty sure I've met you.... at FPU's leadership forum. (at the time, I was still working for Northwest)

@tinkerbellkat - sweet! you're closer than we are (we're about 2.5 hours....) but it's so worth the drive. I'll keep you in the loop.
@samjessup- I'll be there.... actually a whole mess of us from NPCC will be there. We'll keep you posted about the local meet-up.
@everyonesAwriter- would you guys want to go to the coast with us, or just cruise down the 99 for the other meet-up we're talking about? you're more than welcome, either way. I think time-frames would depend on what we're talking about....
On that note... looks like 2 different meet-ups are gonna happen: one at the coast (Pismo Beach) and one in Fresno.
I guess we should figure out what's goin' on with both.... ideas/possible dates & times? and who's attending each one?

I'd like to go to both, but realistically, I'll probably only be able to make it to Fresno. But keep me in the loop for Pismo, too, just in case.
My schedule after Easter is pretty flexible, so the date doesn't really matter. Just tell me when and where to show up and what to bring.

@Sean- Pismo is definitely happening. It's been far too long and I'm going through withdrawls. Selfish motivation, I know.... ;) And it will be after Easter, for everyone's sanity.
I'm gettin' excited.... this is gonna be SWEET!
What day of the week works best for everybody? Monday or Saturday are probably best for me. But other good days are Wednesday or Thursday.

Not sure if Pismo is possible. That's a 4+ hour drive. Probably worth it (never been there), but just not easy to make happen. We'd definitely be up for something in Fresno or Monterey.

@paulcarlson: You should know better than to schedule something on thursday mister.
@everyone: we are gonna do two meet ups, one in fresno and one in pismo. Pismo will obviously be more of a hang out with our wangs out kinda day and Frenso will be more structured to see if we can't glean knowlegde out of each other on specific things pertaining to what we do. More like a mini conference if you will but straight up low key and all that. It can be either at paul's work or mine, both gots lots of room for strecthin our macbook pros to the limits if ya know what I mean.
I apologize in advance for the "wang" comment but will leave it in for dexterity. :)

Ummmm...generally Saturdays and Mondays are probably best for me...and I'm in for Pismo. There's a decent billiards lounge across the street from the Splash Cafe built into an old theater if anyone is down for a game of pool while we're there. Ditto on the after Easter part because, yeah, who else here is working waaaaay overtime right now? SeanP...70+hours/week?...yikes.

For me Monday, Thursday or Friday. Are you guys all working on Easter presentations and materials? Thankfully, we are just ramping up for a huge series. We've stopped doing the dog and pony show for which I'm thankful.

Ok.... looks like April (Wed)9, 11(Fri) or 14(Mon) would be good days.
I'm thinking an afternoon gathering.... we can meet at lunch (we'll provide Pizza & Sodas or something similar.. no donations necessary), and then spend a few hours sharing thoughts, solving problems, and just hanging out (details to follow.... I'd like to hear more ideas about WHAT we should do). 1pm - 4/4:30pm time frame ok?

OK. so I've just gone ahead and set a date and time for the local meet-up in Fresno:
Friday, April 18 from 1pm to 4:30pm or so, at NorthPointe Community Church in Fresno. We'll hang out in our new worship center. Lunch & sodas will be provided.
I really look forward to seeing as many of you as possible. If you could, please reply to this thread or shoot me a flickr mail by April 17 to let me know if you're coming. (so I know how much food to order)
As far as what we'll do, let's just hang out, and shoot the breeze about issues we're trying to help our churches resolve. also, Hsojeel and I might have a little surprise for everybody, but I need to talk to him first.

@coutenaylove- you will put on some VR glasses for the trip and play a dusky scene on the beach. Then when you get to Fresno you will feel like you've been to the beach and all is well.

we're planning on hanging out from around 1pm (or earlier, if people want... my schedule can be flexible) and, I was thinking about hanging until the early evening. so, basically about half a day.... BUT, if people are wanting to make a road trip, I'd be game to host an "after party" at my place... I'd just need to run it by wife. But I'm awesome with a BBQ grill. :) Or, we can plan on getting some good mexican food or something somewhere.

@seanp.... is there any loopholes in your church's employee handbook that you could use to take a Friday off? i.e., (training) time, comp time, work a saturday instead, etc? I'm sure you've probably already thought of that though...
I'd do a Saturday, but we have Saturday night church and my work week is Tues-Saturday. If we did a Saturday, we couldn't have it at my church... no rooms available.
maybe when we end up doing the Pismo trip, it can be on a Saturday....

Cool! Glad you're coming... we'll be in the main Worship Center (biggest building on campus), in our After-Service Lounge, which is located on the SW corner of that building. We've got chairs, couches, a big TV for some Guitar Hero 3.... I'll put up some signs to show the way to that room.
