Top 10 Fonts

gregmuzak2 says:

hey gang... What are all of your very favorite fonts? What do you find yourself using frequently in your designs? What are in your opinion, the best of the best?

I'd love to see some of you put together a top 10 list. Not links or where to get the actual fonts... that would take forever... just a list of the names of your favorite fonts.

Anyone?

-Ratcliffe- says:

1. Helvetica
2. Helvetica Neue
3. Century Gothic
4. Futura
5. Rockwell Condensed Bold
6. Geneva
7. Arial
8. Arial Black
9. Big Noodle Titling
10. Beckett

I don't use all of those "regularly"... the first three are the ones that I use the most. Sans-serif, for me. I actually had trouble thinking of ten fonts that I use.

1. Helvetica Neue Light
2. Franklin Gothic Book and Demi
3. PT Utah Condensed
4. Adobe Caslon Pro
5. Trajan Pro
6. BlackJack

.... now I'm just forcing myself to choose some. I love fonts and of course, different situations calls for diffferent fonts, but these I do use pretty regularly (except for #5, and #6).

1. Franklin Gothic Demi
2. Officina Sans ITC (Book and Bold)
3. Tw Cen MT Bold
4. the seniors like Georgia when there's lots to read. (like the Directory... first time I was in charge of the Directory, much good was said about using a Serif font instead of Arial)
5. Tahoma for impact

important note -- i'm not a font-fanatic, but I use what looks good and clear: again, 50% of our congregation over the age of 60.

I'm a fan of most of the fonts already listed. I use Myriad Pro in almost everything though to have some continuity in every piece. I like it because there are so many different weights to choose from.

I'm a big fan of a lot of what was already mentioned, especially Helvetica and Futura. I also really like Univers, Baskerville Old Style, Mrs. Eaves and Kepler. Those are most of the "basic" fonts I use... I don't think I could choose a favorite stylistic font :)

I confess, I love the clarity of Arial and especially Arial Rounded Bold for stuff that needs to be visible frm a long way off. I use sans serif fonts in everything. I also like Trebuchet and Myriad Pro, but don't use them as often. Our church logo uses a font called Kabel, so I use that one frequently for headings, etc (it's not a great font for body text).

For "fun" fonts, we tend to go through seasons on a particular font. I loved Porcelain, tho we're not using it much any more. The current fav is Scriptina (which I keep seeing everywhere).

So many people have mentioned Helvetica that I'm going to have to investigate. ;-)

Myriad Pro rocks for me. So does Arno Pro, because it works for the simple people who need a basic font. I can't stand Arial anymore, mostly because it feels to webby.

I really like Papyrus. I think it's a really neat font that looks kind of old-ish, and maybe kind of biblical, you know? So I use it for lots of things at the church. I'm surprised I hadn't seen it listed here yet.

Might I suggest Compacta over Impact or Haettenschweiler?

Big fan of Myriad. It's clean and easy to read, but not stuffy or pretentious.

News Gothic SH Bold Condensed is what we use for directional signage.
