About Cessna L-19/O-1 Bird DogDeveloped from the Cessna 170, the Cessna L-19/O-1 Bird Dog was a liaison and observation type aircraft, for the US Army in the early 1950s. When the Army Air Core branched off in 1947 the Bird Dog continued to serve a lengthy career in the US Air Force, US Marines, and also in some 18 countries. Since the first flight in 1949, around 3,431 L-19/O-1's were built. Today only 120+ are still airworthy as privately owned aircraft, some at work as glider towing aircraft all over the world, mostly in Canada by the Royal Canadian Air Cadets and also in Hawaii.
