Get the EXIF statistics from your photos on Flickr

Hi all,

I'm the author of a little tool, that allows you to get the exif statistics of your photos on flickr.
This tool can help you to know more about your habits. What aperture or focal do you use the most ? Interesting, isn't it ?

Take a look at http://stats.ghusse.com

I need help about the focal length data, in the exifs. Most of the cameras write thinks like "73/10" which means a focal length of 7,3mm. But some of the canon cameras write something like "2,3700,7300,2100" for which I totally ignore the meaning. Is there someone here knowing more about it ?

It seems that flickr uses the second value (3700->3,7mm) but some other tools use the fourth one (the same way)...

Thanks for help

Interesting stuff. I notice some of the exposure times are duplicated, particularly at longer exposures it seems. For example, my stats have two lines for 2s exposures.

Sorry, can't help with the Canon data.

It's cool! as _sarchi says, it could be nice to be able to tag back, like with machine tags.

However, the aperture values seem all wrong. For example:
- it tells me I have 60 photos at 1.7, that weird as it's not one of the stop available on my camera. When I check the value as displayed by Flickr, its f/1.8, which seems more sensible ;)
- another weird one is the 18 photos at 8.9... which if I check the exif data is more like f/22

Are these F values?

The rest is really cool :D

There is a program called Exifer. It can extract the exif in a separate file. You can examine it there as well [to see how it interprets canon data, try a few sample photos]
Good job.

Neat. I also see that the aperture values are slightly off. I get 10 photos at f/1, and they are really all at f/1.4. I get 5 photos listed at f/1.4 that were really taken at f/1.6. I get some listed at f/1.7 that are really f/1.8. I haven't checked any further....

Edit to add: I also find one listed at f/8 that's really f/16. So that's even more off.

The odd aperture values are possibly because the ApertureValue EXIF tag doesn't store an f-number, but rather uses APEX (Additive system of Photographic EXposure). The FNumber EXIF tag stores an f-number. Any given camera might use either or both of those tags.

The EXIF specification (see exif.org ) has information on how to convert from APEX to f-number.

Thanks a lot, all of you.

So I need to work on the aperture value, thanks to you I have more informations about how to interpret data stored in exif.

I made a lot of corrections, according your reports :

1) Aperture data reading seems to work correctly now
2) I resolved my issue regarding the focal length
3) >500 photos are supported
4) Mutiple lines for exposure time => fixed

Thanks a lot, all of you.
