Flickr Code

THIS IS THE FLICKR CODE v1.1

It is just a fun 'insider' way to let other Flickr'ers know how bad you have Flickritis!
I'm sure there are more things a person could add, and if more come up enough they can be added to future versions.

I cannot take sole credit for parts of this. I am always willing to hear any suggestions you may have. Remember that + and – do not literally mean positive and negative. They are just ways to denote various meanings. I hope all this is used in the fun spirit it is intended!

Find Your Flickr Code

My Flickr Code – F6 l c(d) f+++! g+ m++ s(e)

F1 - I think my friend has a Flickr account.
F2 - I have an account, but my icon is still the default gray face.
F3 - I have a personalized icon, and just started uploading photos.
F4 - I've got plenty of photos and they are even organized into sets.
F5 - I broke down and bought a Pro account to better organize my photos. I've added my photos to some pools. I even check out some of the group forums.
F6 - I have had several photos make it to the Most Interesting Explore page. I check Flick daily.
F7 - My photos frequently can be found on teh Most Interesting Explore page. I browse Flickr several times a day.
F8 - I've tried to figure out a way to make money posting photos and moderating groups on Flickr. I would ask Flickr on a date if I could.
F9 - Flickr rules my life! I always have Flickr going in the background. I upload photos at least weekly. I sleep with my camera cradled gently next to me. My significant other had to talk me out of naming a child or pet "Flickr". And I'm ok with that.

Contact List - How many people are on your contact list?
l++ I have 500 to 1000 or more contacts on my list
l+ I have 250 to 499 contacts on my list
l I have 1 to 249 contacts on my list (possibly only friends or people I know in real life)
l- I only made a profile so I could comment on others photos
l-- I don't add people as contacts

Camera - This is pretty straight forward. How sophisticated is your camera and the set-up you use? Also there are add-ons for what type of camera you like to use. While you may use more than one, typically you prefer one or two formats. [Example c-(p) means you don't need fancy electronics, you typically use a polaroid.]
c++ I have a top of the line camera and all the gadgets that go along with photography
c+ I have a good quality camera but only a few gadgets that I can afford
c my camera is average, but it works well for me.
c- I don't need fancy electronics. I prefer the good quality cameras that have been around for a while
c-- I prefer to do all my photo taking and developing by hand. I'm a purist when it comes to photography

Favorites - How many photos have you favorited?
f+++ I easily have 1000 or more favorited photos

Groups - How do you feel about Flickr groups?
g++ I belong to numerous group pools and leave comments. I am the Admin for many groups and have even started a group or two of my own
g+ I belong to many group pools and regularly leave comments. I even am the Admin for only 1 or 2 groups
g I read and comment in various groups
g- I belong to the groups, but I don't leaves comments in them
g-- I don't belong to any groups

Social - How Flickr Social are you?
sc+++ My friends consist of all Flickrites
sc++ I've organized/hosted/arraigned a Flickr get together
sc+ I've attended a Flickr get together
sc I've heard about such things, but I've yet to attend one
sc- I don't think I would ever go to one, unless my friend drags me
sc-- I don't see a point in meeting other Flickr users
sc--- I prefer to remain anonymous to other Flickr users

Comments - How do you feel about comments?
m++ I'm a total Cmment Whore! I love leaving and receiving comments
m+ I frequently leave comments for photos
m I occasionally leave a comment if the photo catches my eye
m- I rarely leave a comment. It might only be because I knew the photographer
m-- I don't leave comments and could care less if anyone left comments on my photos

ADD-ONs

s(__) Maybe you have a style of photograph you prefer or prefer taking. You can designate so with the following. Add the letter(s) to signify a style or styles you prefer. I'm sure there are many more than the few I'm listing. If it's not listed feel free to write in the whole word (exam. Squircle would be s(sq))

a abstract
bw black and white
e everything – [save yourself the trouble of listing every letter and just say everything] any photo all styles
p portrait
l landscape [this could include cityscapes ands seascapes]
lm lomography
mc macro
ms mosaic
np night photography
sq squircle
xxx private
xp crossprocessing

You can add any of these letters/symbols to better customize your code.

/ Perhaps you're not quite ready to consider yourself F9, but you aren't exactly F8 either. You could list yourself as F8/F9. For anything that you feel you fall in between two options.

? Maybe you aren't sure if you fit into the category, but you are interested in it. Perhaps, you might not consider yourself to fit into the category, but if you asked anyone they'd agree. [Exam. My friends think I'm a comment whore. :-) m++?]

! Perhaps you have one category that appeals to you the most. For example, you enjoy Flickr, but you REALLY enjoy reading group postings. You could denote it as such [Exam. g!]

	c r i s says: Thank you Everyone for all the suggestions for improvement. Keep them coming! I have incorporated as many of the suggestions as I could. If you don't see something you suggested it isn't because I thought it was silly or unneeded. I probably couldn't figure out an 'easy' way to make it work and still be understandable. Feel free to Flickr-mail me if you have a specific topic you think might be a good addition. I whole-heartledly agree that this is very geeky. But in a fun way! 	Dabbler says: I think this system's organization leaves something to be desired.. for instance maybe I only have had a few photos make it to Explore, but I check Flickr several times a day. This coding makes these two conditions mutually exclusive. F6 - I have had several photos make it to the Most Interesting Explore page. I check Flick daily. F7 - My photos frequently can be found on the Most Interesting Explore page. I browse Flickr several times a day. as with most data maybe binary (010011) format 1 if true 0 if false might give more flexibility with describing the myriad characteristics possible.
