Thanks for the link. I followed the instructions on the page but got the same response.
IE tells me there is an error on the page. Netscape tells me it won't allow a java bookmark writing tool (or something like that.)

@Hilary,
On the popup blocker info page where it says:
Windows XP Popup blocker (SP2)
"If you want to see pop-up windows from a specific Web site, type the address (or URL) of the site in the Address of Web site to allow box, and then click Add."
What exactly are you typing into the box? You should try both www.flickr.com and www.emorate.com.
Try it and let me know what happens. The error coming from IE may be simply because the popup never appeared, but I'm not sure.
With Netscape, did you try dragging the bookmark on to your toolbar? Netscape doesn't allow auto-adding to the Favorites list (bookmarks) like IE does.
@ThenAndAgain,
I'll take a look at that again. I'll probably only be able to do it for Internet Explorer users, at least at first. Mozilla/Firefox doesn't let me write to the clipboard, and getting line breaks into a format that can be cut and paste "by hand" is problematic.

@sbpoet,
Only for Internet Explorer users. I can't access the clipboard yet with FireFox/Mozilla so I have to work out something. Without the ability to access the clipboard I can't get the needed "linefeeds" into the photo comment HTML snippet.
In the meantime, after you paste in the HTML snippet, just look for the <br/> tag and hit enter after the closing angle bracket.
@steeev,
Thanks for pointing that out, especially since you have contributed so much to the Flickr community with you tools.
My concern is, I don't think we are reaching even a tiny percentage of the Flickr community with our tools. This goes for the other Flickr hackers.
The Flickr Hacks & API boards are not read by the general populace and the FlickrTools page is completely off the radar map for most Flickr users.
However, I have no idea what to do about it, and it's a shame because the Flickr user population could be having a lot more fun.
What do you think?

---------------- in the case of greasemonkey scripts, i think the main thing holding people back, is the vast majority of users are still using Internet Explorer, my small (and perhaps insignificant) survey made it out to be around 80% of the users! and my theory is that most people fear change, they prefer to stick with what they know.
so even if there is a cool browser such as firefox with loads of amazingly useful features such as tabbed browsing, extensions such as adblock, funky greasemonkey scripts, etc all of which will make users web browsing experience a lot smoother, most people will not make the effort to try it out.
i guess the only way to get more people to try out the alternatives is to be an evangelist, and to mention whats available whenever you get a chance, maybe that will help.

One suggestion. release separate bookmarklets for different sizes. I use:
square
thumb
small
in equal regularity in threads/comments!

Another idea:
Flickr Group Linker tool.
usually i type them out with HTML and all, but it's really annoying if they haven't set a plainword name for the group yet.
So a bookmarklet that from any group page, spit out some link text/HTML with the name, perhaps even the group icon would rock!

Try and tell others about the tool. If Corydalus had not bumped the thread, I don't think this last group of you would have known about it.
@clickykbd,
Instead of different bookmarklets, I could add an option box to the current bookmarklet popup window with sizes choices. What do you think?

You can now choose a size when creating an in-line comment photo, from all available sizes.

That is coming but it will be part of BreadKrumbs because I have to store data on a "per-user" basis (which I don't have to do with the Photo Comment tool). So it will be an extra bookmarklet!

@Puzzled,
1) The <br/> is there to make it look right in the comment display area. I left it in the HTML that gets dropped on the page because it doesn't seem to harm anything, and if Flickr ever starts accepting them it'll already be there on pages that already have photo comments.
Are you saying it's showing up in the visible comment text?
2) I assume by "name" you mean the photo title? If so, I'll see what would be involved in adding that.
Thanks,
Robert
Posted 95 months ago.

1) No, it's not in the visible area. I just had never seen that tag before and thought it was an error; I'd supposed it was meant to be a regular <br> tag.
2) Yeah, I said "name" because not everyone puts a title there, often just leaving the name of the file there.
Thanks for being so responsive to the feedback!

Being new to flickr and somewhat html-challenged, I had some trouble figuring out how to post a small photo within a comment or a group thread.
Yes, I read the directions on the flickr help page, but it didn't really, well, help. Tried a few times, failed again and again and wound up just throwing up my hands and giving up. Frustrating to say the least...
Each time I'd see a small photo in a comment or group thread I'd sigh and wish I could figure it out. After a while, I decided to slog through the FlickrHelp Forum page by page and hoped to find a plea for help from an equally befuddled new flickerite.
Well, I hit paydirt by coming across a response that linked me here. First I was happy, then sad, then happy again.
When I kept seeing mention of "Windows" I sighed, thinking it wouldn't work on my Mac (using the Safari browser). Decided to try it anyway just in case and boy am I ever glad I did.
THANKS FOR SHARING THIS ROBERT!!!! You've added more joy to my flickr experience.
Is there any way you can get this tool listed in the flickr blog so that a larger group of members can discover it?

Thank you for your kind words! Perhaps you might send Flickr Staff an e-mail about FlickrBlog covering it? Other than that I don't know.
@Julie70,
There's nothing to remove. If you don't click on the bookmarklet, it doesn't activate. That's how bookmarklets work.
If you really want to, just delete the bookmarklet, but as I said, if you don't click on it, it's completely "dead".
Thanks,
Robert
