It appears they are either abusing an API key or exploiting a cache server directly. The photos are indeed hosted by flickr, but it's a direct cache url and not one that provides any photographer url data.
The text-ads also indicate they are simply trying to churn a profit by re-skinning a flickr tags interface.
Also everyone please take a look at www.slide.com. I found several of their categories had been seeded by flickr photos. I wasn't postitive about how abusive they were being but I got a general dislike for the way attribution was being handled there too.
As an example this category (wallpapers) sucks every photo tagged "cameratoss".

this assumes that they aren't just scraping the site.
i actually kind of like the idea of a site that showcases people and tags and pushing away a lot of the noise.
but LINK BACK for crying out pete's sake! not only are they breaking the TOS, they aren't properly attributing at all.

It does push away a lot of the noise, but also a lot of the protection - their "popularity" take on interestingness shows a lot of the NIPSA stuff Flickr does a good job of hiding from public view.

is this really that big of a deal? i mean i am sure there was no harm intended and it is not like they are selling the individual photos. they just really must like the site and wanted to show them in an alternative way. I suspect this thread has given them more hits today than they have gotten period. I seached for myself and found a few. i thought it was pretty funny... plus i think they go by tags not rss feeds.

The big deal is twofold.
For me, it's about attribution. I don't ask for money, just fame. I put a lot of time and effort into my poorly framed pictures, and the least one could do is to acknowledge my efforts and properly attribute. If somebody likes my pictures, I would like them to see more of my work. And it's a violation of the CC license I use, if I'm not mistaken.
For flickr, it's all about stolen bandwith.
Only found one of my pics linked there, so not as upsetting. But still mildly upsetting. I too seek guidance on the proper channels to complain to.

I guess everyone here in flickr may suffer this outrage: ideas anybody?

Mine were not there either. Could be because neither you nor I are allowing the All Sizes to Flickr members. At least I allow download of original to contacts and I'm presuming that everyone that has spotted their pictures on that site have allowed download of originals for members which most people do. This may be a clue to follow, but, not sure where it leads.
Incidentally, the search feature is no longer on that site.

I found some photos of mine on www.slide.com, uploaded by some user named "Wing" and tagged with "@flickr" (e.g., a group of photos labeled "Kittens@flickr"). I'm unamused enough to go through the hoops they require to complain about copyright infringment. I've also recognized other people's photos, and I'll probably tell them about it also.
Slide, sucks, though. I was doing a keyword search for "cat"--it tries to load all photos or "slide shows" that match, completely wedging my IE. Ha ha! Lamers. Here's a link to the keyword search page...interesting that they use the term "tag" too.

What does referrer blocking mean?
Posted 79 months ago.
|
|
Every time you access a URL, your browser sends a header (the "Referer" header, yes it's misspelled in the http spec), with the url of where you accessed that url from. So if you load an image from www.flickr/com/, your browser also sends a header in its request, stating: 'Referer: http://www.flickr.com/'. The same applies to links you click on. This is the standard behaviour. It can be modified of course. Some browsers offer a setting, others need a plug-in or extension. An alternative is to use a proxy to filter it out.
And on the server side, you can use that info to decide if you want to serve certain content.

I've clicked around in all of my browsers and have only seen one photo load, so it looks like Stewart and the gang are doing a good job at blocking.
Whoever's behind Flickle will really give up if he or she is unable to get any ad revenue, and I'm pretty sure Google doesn't want their ads on this kind of site. Their AdSense policies can be found here. Thanks to the blocking, Flickle violates this item:
Site Functionality
Your site must not contain broken links and must be launched, functioning, and easily navigable.
[Edit]
I have reported this to Google, so I removed the link to their contact page to avoid duplicate reports.

back to slide.com topic...
So is just a link back to the flickr page sufficient attribution for Creative Commons (By) license? I would think not, it does meet the "share-alike" aspect of some of the other licenses, but that is only one requirement met, not all of them.
Also many of us choose a "non-commercial" variant of the licensing scheme, of which slide is definitely NOT.
My main beef with slide is that the desktop application you can download allows you to set a desktop background without ever proceeding to any of flickr pages that display attribution and or licensing.
Edit... one more thought. The inclusion of my photos in a slide category that I did not place them in myself, permitting scrolling display on their desktop applications... to me is an example of a derivative work, something many of our licenses prohibit.

A link back to flickr doesn't meet the CC license requirements. Also, the license name has to be displayed and the commons deed (and hence full license) linked to under the terms of many (all?) CC licenses.

So - been browsing over at slide and there are tons, hundreds, thousands of flickr photos without appropriate permission nor attribution. In addition to specific individuals' flickr photos appropriately added to slide by that individual, there are general slide shows for flickr interestingness, flickr bugs (insects), flickrcentral, flickr babes, flickr weddings, flickr flowers, etc.
www.slide.com/tags?tag_search=flickr
I don't understand yet how it works exactly, but lots of flickr member photos appear to be designated as 'owned' or 'uploaded' by non-flickr slide members.
Is this in compliance with flickr TOU? It seems not, despite the links back to flickr. Looks like the flickr honchos need to have a chat with the slide honchos...
Does someone with a bigger brain than mine care to parse this?
