Cita ineludible del verano y uno de los referentes mundiales del folk, el Festival Ortigueira se ha convertido por méritos propios en uno de los eventos musicales más multitudinarios de toda España. Su magnitud excede ya lo puramente musical, para consolidarse como un espacio libre donde confluyen gentes de todas las tribus llegadas de los más diversos puntos de la geografía.

Celtic World International Festival from Ortigueira
The Festival took place in 1978 for the first time, and was organised by the Escola de Gaitas de Ortigueira (Ortigueira Bagpipe School).
In the year 2000, under the presidency of the current Mayor of Ortigueira, Antonio Campo, the foundations for what today is a genuine cultural industry were laid. At the same time, the Festival broadened its musical horizon towards other kinds of music, which do not have to be strictly Celtic.
The Festival, organised by Ortigueira’s local government, was assigned the status of being an Event of National Touristic Importance, an award given in 2003 by the Ministry of Finance.
It was in May of 2005, when the folk meeting was declared International Turist Interest Festival. Only 29 events in Spain posses this distinction nowadays
