Thi may be a basic question but do you have a cat tree? With our current pair we bought a 6 foot tall cat tree as well as a scratching pad and we have very few problems. I also trim their claws every week.

same thing at our place... so it´s something else, and she does it right after we trimmed her claws aswell... so we´re lost at this moment, and don´t know how to make her stop this habit..

Ok, here's something else we've tried. Whenever our previous cat tried clawing the furniture we carried her over to the cat tree and rubbed her paws against it so she go the idea. Another thing I've heard (but never tried) was rubbing catnip on the scratching post to entice them.
With our first cat where we didn't know the techniques and there was no Internet, we ended up with a couch that got a bit shredded at the corners. So I understand your dilemma.

All advice sounds good here.
Barry, try the catnip-just a tiny pinch at first as it is, after all, mostly an olfactory thing.:) Lotta fun, IF they like it!
pernille_ michael: You could try a product such as Soft Paws wich are soft nail covers for cats and dogs. They last for about a month, and come off when the outer sheath of the nail sheds.
Double sided stickey tape stuck where they are scratching works, as does the "pointy side out" of carpet runners.
Just PLEASE don't declaw!
Also, have someone show you how to trim a cat's claws. It's very easy. I can provide a link for that. What ages are your Bengals?

Thanks for reminding me adptus. A friend of ours finds that aluminum foil is a good deterrent (our cats unfortunately liked playing with the foil).

Welcome ,Barry!
We"ve had the same problem: Foil=Toy.
Also, cats hate citrus odors. You could spriiz the problem areas or surrounding areas with a vet-approved smell substance.

I like the double sticky tape idea adptus!
I'll bet it would help with my recent pee-pots!
(I'm sick of washing everything!)

i like the idea about double sticky tape....
we know how to trim the claws, was shown by a vet, and the idea with citrus may work on one of our cats, but on the other one its working like a magnet, everytime we take out a citrus or an orange she wants to help us eat it... strange cat...
anyway the cats are 2 years old, and the youngest is round 9 months.... the strange part is, that it´s only the oldest one that behave that way, and she only started doing it within the last 4 months.... like she´s seeking for attention....
thanx for the good advices so far..
(hope our english is ok, we´re from Denmark :-)

Bengals, from the very few I've been around, ARE a bit odd! Most importantly, all that you try time to work! Your english is just fine!
Feral, please start a new thread for house soiling. I think we may have spoken about this once.....?

Like Barry, we have a cat tree, my husband made it with branches from the wood, carpet covered pieces of wood for them to sit on, and very important weighted at the bottom as three of the cats are Maine Coons and would topple it otherwise, Since then a 5th. has joined to take turns. They use the branch to scratch and we don't have many other problems with scratching, however, is it is a real problem keeping a small water pistol handy would soon help them in the right direction without frightening too much.

Thanks everyone, I agree it is great, the difficulty was with the coonies being so heavy and large we couldn't find anything that wouldn't topple, however, the funny thing is that every cat wants to be on the top perch, just like humans really aren't they? The cats from top to bottom are...Tom Quartz.....Malachi (stray)...Jefferson.....Dashing Denzil. We now have another one who needed some love...Fat George.

Please go ahead. There are a couple of things you need to think about, Make sure you slope the surfaces further back from the bottom for each shelf so they can climb up. Also make sure if they are large cats the bottom base is weighted well. Think about where you want it to go and the area to fit in, ours moves from the kitchen in winter to the conservatory in summer. Good Luck. Let me see a finished picture.

My cat used to claw a former roommate's wooden futon. The vet suggested we rub linseed oil on the wood, something about the smell of it cats don't like. It's safe and it makes the wood look nice. You can pick up the oil in any art supply store. Although, it didn't work very long on my kitty, she eventually got used to it and went back to destroying the couch.
Now she claws at my partner's giant homemade easel. He made it out of cheap 2x4 and she hasn't scratched at anything else since we moved in together (about 2 years now). Although a piece of 2x4 isn't as fun a cat tree, it might do the trick until the kitty condo is ready :)
