I recently bought a really good flash (canon 580 ex II) and a omnibounce.

I would like to ask you people, what is good tips and tricks when using a flash outside.
Does the omnibounce make any difference when outside?
What angle is preferred when if using a omnibounce considering that there is no roof to bounce the light off when outside.

You usually use a flash outside as a fill. So persay when shooting a portrait during the day, find the side that casts a shadow and light that side. I usually take the flash off the camera. The lighting angle should be around 45 degrees to the subject, but there are no rules you have to abide by.

You can use the omnibounce to soften the light a little but really you are better off just not using it and powering down appropriately if you are after fill flash.

There's some discussion on the subject here...

Oh and the reason to have the omni at 45 degrees or higher is so it doesn't direct light down into the flashes sensors (whatever its called, exposure assist?) and mess with the flash metering.

With nothing to bounce light off (like walls or a roof) its a diffusor but unless you are shooting wide you are better off just stopping down with the bare flash.

I'm repeating myself.

How about shooting outdoors at night in an open space? Shoot with the flash pointed straight ahead.
