This is actually what I do with all of my photos; I tag them using the full, syntactically correct name Canon gives to its lenses.
BTW, I own all but two of the lenses you've listed, and I've used the other two. They're all great lenses.

Just a note, it is possible to make tags with spaces within to aid in reading... just enclose the words as you want them within double quotes I believe it is.

You can include spaces and other characters in a tag by enclosing the entire string in quotation marks, but when presenting the tag in your list, or as part of a URL, etc., the spaces and other characters (like the slash) will be removed.
If you create a tag like "Canon EF 300mm f/2.8L IS USM", it will translate to "canonef300mmf28lisusm".
Look at any of my photos, and then click the lens tag and you'll see what I mean.

Here's what I keep handy for posts:
"Canon EOS 5D"
"Canon EF 24-70mm f/2.8L USM"
"Canon EF 35mm f/1.4L USM"
"Canon EF 100mm f/2.8 Macro USM"
"Canon EF 135mm f/2L USM"
"Canon EF 300mm f/4L IS USM"
"Canon EF Extender 1.4x II"
I drag/drop whichever is meaningful into flickr's tag field. The spaces make reading easier and the quotes keep the spaces.
fixed, thanks.

Thanks for this. Saved me the problem of deciding on a sensible and consistent tagging system for lenses, which I wanted to do for my own use. I've added the appropriate tags to my photos thus far and will continue to do so.
It's an excellent idea to try and encourage consistent tagging of lens usage, it should provide a very interesting and useful resource. The more people that use it the better.

How about adding a notice about lens tagging to the new 'news flash' banner for the group? It could be a good way to expose more people to the idea, since I assume a lot of people might not bother reading the discussions section, but you can't help but see the news flash if you visit the group page.

OK, I'll change it.
Adding the camera make and model etc. to the EXIF data doesn't appear to be a trivial task. I can only find difficult-to-use command line utilities that can do it. The easy-to-use GUIs, like Exifer, can't so it seems : (

Both the Tamron AF70-300mm F/4-5.6 LD Macro 1:2 and Tamron SP AF90mm F/2.8 Di 1:1 Macro were added to the database, but no photographs appear for the 90mm Macro. Remember, the official lens tag for this lens should be exactly as it appears on the company web site, which would be "Tamron SP AF90mm F/2.8 Di 1:1 Macro" or "tamronspaf90mmf28di11macro", depending on which tag you want to use (both will work).
Are there any other lenses out there being used that aren't in our 5D lens database? If so, please speak up!
You can see how the list is shaping up by looking at the top of this thread.

The problem with the Canon EF 50mm f/1.8 Mark I is that everyone is using canonef50mmf18 for their Mark II lens. There are only a few that use that tag correctly and even fewer that use canonef50mmf18i.

No Canon lens is officially known as a Mark I. It's a term people colloquially use to distinguish it from the Mark II.
There are a few current Mark II lenses, such as the 16-35/2.8L II, 50/1.8 II, 85/1.2L II and 200/2.8L II.

I wonder if we could get the good folks who develop the uploaders to include a setting that automtically tags photos with the body and lens from the EXIF data? It seems if you are handy @ coding it would be easy enough. Wouldn't it be nice to configure your settings once and let the application do the work. :)
