26 Jun 08 - I eventually decided to get this lens for use on my 5D and 1D Mk III, and thought, why not start a group? Despite a few conglomerate groups about, there wasn't one for this particular lens, which does deserve one.

About Canon 50mm f1.2 L

A feast of images taken with the Canon 50mm f1.2L (only). Other sites also include this lens, but not exclusively so, or have expanded to include similar lenses.

If you don't yet own a Canon 50mm f1.2L, here are some facts - if you do, you already know this

* It's one of Canon's (current) two widest aperture lenses at f1.2
* It's smallest aperture is f16
* Auto-focus is slower compared to some "L" lenses - but this is normal
* Minimum focus distance aint that close - step back slightly to avoid AF issues
* It's sharp
* It has wide contrast
* Colour rendition is excellent
* It's an "L" lens - enough said

You can use this lens for many purposes. Although stunning portature and wafer thin DOF images are probably your first thoughts, it will create excellent landscapes too.

The first image you create at f1.2 will blow you away - that tiny slice of focus can become addictive. A beginner, or someone new to this lens might find it needs more user input than the f1.4 or f1.8 versions - but once you master it, you won't part with it
