About Candid in Canada

This is the place to share your best and favourite candid photographs taken anywhere in Canada.

Photos MUST BE CANDID -- no posed or studio shots.
Photos MUST BE SHOT in Canada.

Anywhere in Canada means: from coast to coast to coast, on the street, in a park, at a protest, community event, private party, festival, shopping mall, camp site, wedding, public transit, farm, factory, downtown, uptown, midtown, outtatown, nowhere near town.

Candid photography is unposed; the photographer and camera are usually immersed in a moment (public or private), not located far away zooming in from the distance.

Please only post photos you've taken.
No nudes.
No videos.
No porn.
No diptychs, collages, etc. Please, just the photo.

For the time being, all photos will be submitted into a queue in an effort to prevent flooding, and to ensure images fit with the "Candid in Canada" theme. All photos will be vetted within 24 hours. Please add the tag "candid".

Also, there is a temporary limit of 25 pix per month. Let's show each other the different sides of the Canadian perspective on candid photography, not create another group for dumping photos. There's much to learn from each other.

Don't forget to invite all your friends who take photos in this *humungous* and richly diverse country.

From Wikipedia:
"Candid photography is best described as un-posed and unplanned, immediate and unobtrusive. This is in contrast to classic photography, which includes aspects such as carefully staged portrait photography, landscape photography or object photography. Candid photography catches moments of life from immersion in it.

Candid photography is opposed to the stalking involved in animal photography, sports photography or photographic journalistic intrusion, which all have a focus on getting distant objects photographed, e.g. by using telephoto lenses. Candid photography's setup includes a photographer who is there with the "subjects" to be photographed, close, and not hidden. People photographed on candid shots either ignore or accept the close presence of the photographer's camera without posing.

The events documented are often private, they involve people in close relation to something they do, or they involve people's relation to each other. Candids are the kinds of pictures taken at children's birthday parties and on Christmas morning, opening the presents; the pictures a wedding photographer takes at the reception, of people dancing, eating, and socializing with other guests."
