Cancer Sell - What's It All About?

beautifullyurban is a group administrator beautifullyurban says:

Dear Friends

In June 2007, my Mother passed away at the Florence Nightingale Hospice from breast cancer after been diagnosed in November 2006. She battled an undignified illness with such bravery, even though it eventually ate its way into every part of her. In June ‘07 she was admitted to the Florence Nightingale Hospice as her life’s journey was at its end. The nurses and staff at the hospice were very supportive to both my mother and my family and she passed away with dignity. My family and her friends can’t thank the Hospice enough for making the last week of her life a comfortable one.
Cancer Research is researching ways to stop this disease and to eventually find a cure. The Florence Nightingale Hospice helps families with both respite and palliative care. Both these charities give crucial support to cancer sufferers and their families/friends, which is a vital requirement post diagnosis. In order for them to continue their selfless and dedicated work funds are needed.

To show my gratitude for the dedication and compassion given to my mother and my family by the Florence Nightingale Hospice and the untiring efforts of Cancer Research in trying to combat this voracious disease, I now want to repay their efforts by organising a charity fundraising event, which will be held at a top London gallery. The money raised on the night will be split evenly between Cancer Research (Registered Charity Number: 1089464) and The Florence Nightingale Hospice, Buckinghamshire (Registered Charity Number: 1119499).

To get the ball rolling, I am looking for donations of art to sell at the event. I am looking to schedule this event mid 2008 if all runs to plan. There are no constraints to mediums, sizes, materials, etc, and the theme does not have to relate to cancer or its condition.

Please post your donations, comments, enquiries, ideas, or email me at: mono4@fsmail.net. Also, contact me on my email if you would like a delivery address.

Donations have already been received by artists Copyright, Cept, Beautifully Urban, Stef and we have confirmation from Pure Evil, Jeff Aerosol,& Rosie Emerson that they will donate. We have secured items for raffles from Play Lounge, Sh!, Waitrose, The Urban Shop and Mavala.

I’d like to take this opportunity to thank you in advance for your support and look forward to seeing you, your friends, colleagues, etc., all carrying a big fat wad of cash and ready to flex those credit cards in anticipation of becoming the owner of an exclusive piece of artwork all for a good cause, on the night.

Watch this space for more info!

..CHUN.. says:

You know i'm going to get hopefully everyone I know in on this. Cancer sucks, it really does. My friend now is sitting beside me with lung cancer. Not from smoking not from his family but from some bullshit in the military.

I feel for these people these men and women that go over there and fight for us! I am a son to a great person that fought in Vietnam. These people are there for your freedom, dignity, and justice, BUT you guys spit on them because they are over there fighting. It's like Vietnam all over again! What happened to the patriotism in this country?

I do not support the war, but these people, men, women, children, are dying and you people really give two shits and a fart in the wind? I have friends like most of the 20 year old people over there. BUT some of you go out and parade around banners about peace! There is not peace within the human race, there has only been war, death, and famine. But you still parade, you still gather, you still raise your banner, but you do not support men and women that are over there in different places fighting for what they believe is a strong government?

I will support you on this because it's the cause. I love people no matter who they are and of what religion. I am a man of my word, and this is what we have to be.

Next message will be a painting just for you people. I'm sending a painting for everyone, the troops fighting, breast cancer victims, lung cancer, homeless, i'm here for you. and I will be the hardest brutalist son-of-bitch around.

...CHUN

Give me your add and I will send....Hopefully this will get people to send to if you haven't already got a ton of artwork already!

Chun,

Such powerful words. Such a slap around the face to make us wake up too. I am sorry to hear about your friend, I hope if there is anything I can do to help you will ask.

Cancer, no matter what form it takes within the body is such a degrading illness for those who are diagnosed and such a heartbreaking life for those who have to love, care, cope and support.
My heart goes out to each and every family who has been touched by this violent illness.

Thank you for helping, donating, sending this message on.

Peace, Love, and no matter what, laughter

Yesterday my dear Stepmother called me to tell me that she has a lump in her breast and it is cancerous. It is very small and they are going to remove it, then she will have radiation treatments.

Today I opened the invite from you and am trying to keep from crying, for your loss, for my Stepmom, Duke, and because I feel like this is just a wonderful thing that you're doing here.

OF COURSE I will donate some jewelry. Will email you right now!

Jes,

I am sorry yo hear of your news. It does take you by surprise, like a huge kick in the gut, as you always think 'it happens to other families'. My Mother had breast cancer and then by the time she started chemotherapy it had taken hold of her body. She had it in her limbs, hips, back and finally her brain.

Both the Hospice and Cancer Research do such great things for both families and patient and the only way I can thank them is to help to raise funds which they so desperatly need.

Keep in touch, lean of for support. Your not alone.

Love and, not matter what, laughter

Woot Woot! The group has now topped 500 members!! So all I have to ask is where are our 500 donated works of art!?!? :)

Thank you to all the generous donations so far from all you lovely lovely people. Tthe quality of our recent submissions have been extremely lush and we are having trouble containing our own excitement for the night! We are just scared we will end up buying all the art ourselves it's so good!

Can I please also take this opprtunity to ask you send an invite out to your fellow contacts/artists that may be interested in donating and helping us out where they can. If you can do that it would be a grat boost and get the message spread further than just our own resources.

Thanks again

She, in the last year, has developed breast cancer (advanced) and full blown Alzheimer's in the last six months. It has been hard because my mother has given up her life to care for her and now she doesn't even remember her. I am working on a couple of things and will make sure they get to you in time. ///// Dear Artist

A big shout out to all you artsts who have agreed to generously donate to the Cancer Sell event. We are now collating and curating the Cancer Sell show and require all donations to be sent in.

In the past few weeks we have had a space generously donated to us by Hamilton Corporate Finance and the Cancer Sell show will now be held on 31st July 2008 at 98 Leonard Street, London, EC1V 9AY. We are now securing plenty of prizes for the prize draw by approaching local businesses and all donations can be seen at www.flickr.com/groups/cancersell.

We look forward to your support and are looking forward to seeing you at the event to flex your plastic and help fundraise monies for Cancer Research and The Florence Nightingale Hospice.

Thanks & Regards
