About Canberra Area Birds

A place for discussion and display of your favourite photos of birds seen in the Canberra area (more or less the area from Cooma to Goulburn and the Brindabellas to Braidwood). We cover all birds -- little ones, big ones, perched ones, walking, strutting or in flight, but wild birds only please, and only those seen in the Canberra area.

Canberra is the capital of Australia and is the only city within the Australian Capital Territory, around 300km south of Sydney and 110km from the coast. It is a great place for birds thanks to lots of remaining bush, a mix of native and exotic vegetation, and a location that includes many local migrations.

Canberra is served by the excellent Canberra Ornithologists Group (COG). COG has a gallery for birds that you can refer to or compare your shots against for identification.
