About DBOLRL: pɹɐɥ ǝʇoʌ.
DBOLRL: a playground for a Diverse Bunch of Low Res Lovers. Think of it as a sort of mini "Comment on my Cuteness" without the nastiness. It's another way of sharing and talking about your low resolution pictures. And besides, we're Wunderbitchin!!
An approved list of lo-res devices include: cameraphones (even high MP ones have cheap glass and crap sensors), or any crap lo-res digital you happen upon--KeyCams, Vistaquests, SharkCams. . .you know what we mean. You might sneak a Canon or a Pola in. . .if we notice, we'll probably just vote lose on it. Or not. What we WON'T do is burn you at the stake :)
How it works:
It's simple.
Comment and vote on ALL the pictures when you post to the pool.
Vote either "keep" or "lose," and be sure to leave a corresponding tag. If a picture gets five "keeps" it becomes eligible for inclusion in the Hardest Disk for permanent exhibition.
If, on the other hand, it gets five "loses," it goes down to the bowels of Flickr. . .but you can also add it to the (l)users group where we share each others' shame.
We also have a cleansweeps group for photos that get five straight keeps (with no loses), and you can find that illustrious repository of photographic supremacy here. We also have a swift-kick group for photos that get five straight loses (with no keeps), and you can find that illustrious repository of photographic unparalleled brilliance here. Jakey would really rather you put them in the threads, but those of us who care about counting stuff and competition also implore you to use the groups to help us all keep track of who's winning! Not that winning matters to anyone except Benji. And he sucks (but won't swallow).
There used to be a bit about bookmarklets, but I think it's way easier to just tag a photo with "keep" or "lose" plus the number (e.g., if you're the third person to vote "lose," then tag it "lose3"). Also give the photo a comment as to why you are voting the way you are (it doesn't have to make much sense).
Examples of comments that are valid:
"Meh."
"Nah."
"No."
"Yep."
"You suck."
Speaking of sucking, please keep in mind that this is only a game on the interwebs, and should NEVER be taken so seriously that it might hurt your feelings, or cause you to want to block people who are not spamming your inbox with porn. If you feel overwhelmed with emotion, please take it up directly with the person involved via fmail and do not ask the admins to referee (we are pretty much "live and let live" kinda people).
That being said, it never hurts to offer people a few kind words of encouragement every now and again. Karma goes a long way.
Finally, here's an inexhaustive list of the de jure rules (these can be used as comments in and of themselves).
1. Dog rule. If there's a dog somewhere--anywhere--in the photo, vote lose on it. We hate dogs.
2. Alcohol rule. If there's a spot of alcohol somewhere--anywhere--in the photo, vote keep on it. We love alcohol (thus the name Diverse Bunch of Liquor dRinking leftists).
3. OPA rule. Let's be quite clear on this. Any photo that does not add in any way whatsoever to the original piece of art being photographed is therefore OPA ("other people's art") and worthy of scorn. There are one or two dissenters, but I don't give one rat's ass what they say.
4. DFW rule. The Dalls-Fort Worth metroplex is the epitome of what's wrong with Amurika, and should be razed as soon as we take power of the people's government. In the meantime, please vote lose on anything photographed in DFW (excepting Dealey Plaza, of course).
Whatknot's addendum
DFW rule can only apply to LotF. If exercised the Memphis conversely rule applies even though I kinda like Memphis. Unlike the common misinformation Dallas is not like Dallas the TV show and besides all the oil money is in Houston and J. R. Ewing is dead.
Dog rule can only be used by people who are afflicted with cynophobia because dogs are people too .... or something like that because I suppose we need to oblige those folks to comply with the ADA. This also applies to people who suffer from felinophobia, anthophobia and coulrophobia.
Images with photographic merit are allowed and voted in any way that floats your boat.
Images that are tilted, fuzzy, blurred, oddly composed, or are otherwise outside the classic rules of photography may suffer the consequences of the purists so post them at your own risk.
More finally than the last finally, please do not submit any photo in this voting group and another voting group simultaneously. That really chaps Jakey's hide.
Now get out there and take some pictures!
