Do it here in this tread:

I finally have enough tossing done to create a photo set. Most of it is low tossing at night near light sources.

Edit:
{set no longer exists, broken up into sets based on tossing location}

About my efforts. My first full night of tossing experimentation. All of these shots were taken either on the porch of a decoratively lit coffeeshop, or in front of a red/yellow/white neon sign at the shop next door, you can even read some words in one of them.

Tosses were 1-6ft in the air, playing with different ways I can spin the camera. I did not use the timer on any of these first images, the length of the night exposure is long enough to capture alot of the camera in free-fly.

Personally, I was astounded with the results (especially considering I cannot preview in camera). I love abstract painting with light, but every camera movement/blur shot i've seen involves light sources either spinning together, or moving linearly/wavy in one direction. The nature of the directionality in camera tossing produces truely unique results, some of them quite breathtaking. I like that in many of them you can almost "feel" the way the camera was turning. Seeing the same light tracer moving across the frame in different places with variation in direction and position provides neat hints as to how the camera spun or didn't spin. The textures and directional layers are what I love in these.

Just found, picture of me taking this set! I'm in mid catch here.

So an outing for some daylight tossing. Decided these are different enough to deserve their own set.

sun and tree

Set: Camera Toss (Day)

Still learning what makes a good daylight toss. Lots of "junk", would be much more wasteful if shooting film. I did get one discernable aerial and a couple abstract self portraits. Best of is now in pool. A wide-angle, fisheye or just more light would have helped.

Tossing while driving is definitely not recommended (both meanings), has to be more dangerous than cell phone usage while driving. hehe.

As suggested by Clickykbd, I'm postin this set of my "tosses" (actually not all are tosses, strictly speaking, but more "controlled", handling the camera. I find the pure toss too random and generally uninteresting).

Sorry, this has probably been asked before...

If the camera is attached to my wrist by a string as i through it but does NOT interfere with the cameras toss (it would only affect the camera if it's about to hit the ground)... Is that okay or not? Actually, you wouldn't even notice if it was a night time shot really. The camera would be spun by my hands into the air only and the string would just be a backup for the bad catch.
Posted 67 months ago. (permalink)

clickykbd is a group administrator clickykbd  Pro User  says:

@Jump... yeah that's fine... it usually doesn't work well with the wrist or neck strap because they are too short to really "stay out of the way"... but longer strings have been used before as a precaution. Don't know how well it works though as I've only thrown equipment I can afford to break.
