The Workflow Meet-up

Howdy,

In an ongoing way to keep the meet-ups interesting how about we think about introducing a few which are still photography related, but not necessarily actually taking photos.

The idea with the workflow meet-up would be to get a few of us together in one of the city fine drinking houses. Once there although not enforced the idea of the conversation thread should be around your workflows.

From planning through to execution, then into pruning, processing and finally publication. I'm sure a few of us have laptops so we could even review some of the workflows first hand.

I think no matter our experience it is still nice to hear how others are achieving some of the shots they have come up with.

I'm sure a few of us have often wondered how Rob achieves such fantastic macro shots, the background work that goes into some of the landscape shots that Andrew captures and how AndyS grabs some of those fantastic star trail shots.

So before we start to put any dates in the diary - it would be good to have one before the end of the year, I'd first like a show of hands from people who would be interested. (oh and please be prepared to come and share as well as listen ;) ) Also which night (and from what time) works best for this kind of meet-up.

So for me - yes I'm interested (well duh !) Thursdays work best from 7pm onwards.

3rd and 12th work for me ...

I'm actually planning on going for my LRPS in 2010 and on the 5th I'm attending a planning day in Foxton. If we were to make it the 3rd this may be a good chance for me to get other critique from you guys..

I guess depending on numbers we could try and call ahead and see if they can accommodate us if we promise to buy lots of beer :)

All good for me, 14th is the peak for the Geminids meteor shower so hoping for a clear night for sample material if we do 25th or 16th.

As for pubs 15th and 16th will be good as college term has ended so those along Bridge St shouldn't be too packed.

Sounds good. I think I'm comfortable with all those dates mentioned so far.

For pubs, it depends a little on how many people might be turning up, but I could suggest upstairs at the Castle on Castle Hill. I can't say its my favourite spot, but it has the advantage of larger tables and more space.

So anyone for next week at the Castle?

I guess if we do this before December we avoid all the Xmas party booking at the Castle that tend to hog the upstairs area.

Good point. I'd forgotten about Xmas parties which need avoiding... That could make the upstairs at the Castle a bad idea.

I would be interested in attending this. I'm back in Cambridge after a sabbatical and really want to start taking photos again, some ideas of workflow practices that I could apply would be useful.

I guess, although we rarely run out of things to talk about we should put some ideas on the table now

- flash setup
- preparation before a photo trip
- post processing

Any others?

Hi,

I think I'll probably put in an appearance. I'm not sure I've got a lot to bring to the party - my workflow is probably best described as minimal - but could certainly learn something.

See you later,

James.

Good to see everyone last night ... I saw a few people with note pads taking down some notes (some great tips and weblinks given out) It's probably worth posting any of the web links that you can remember on here, especially in regards to sites other than Flickr for which you use to view photos ...

JPeg Photos
The Big Picture
Noise Ninja
Solar Rose
Golden Hour Calculator
