About The Beauty of California [Scenic Views]

We are specifically looking for scenic landscape photographs of the state of California. Preferably scenes on a grand scale (ocean, mountains, rivers, lakes, desert, bridges, historic landmarks, and etc.) that also include a significant view of the California landscape.

Historic Landmarks and Bridges should show their relationship to the landscape, rather than a closeup of specific statue, building or bridge details. Interior photos do not fit into this group.

Flowers, Trees, & Bushes--Only the California State flower, the Poppy, is encouraged. No other flower, tree, and/or bush may be the focus of an image. However, images of the California landscape may certainly include flowers, trees, and bushes of any kind as part of the background landscape scenery. Wide shots of scenic fields of flowers are also acceptable.

Birds and Animals--The California State bird, the California Quail (also known as the Valley Quail), is encouraged when photographed in the wild. Images of other birds and animals photographed in the wild should include a significant view of the California landscape.

* Zoo and other captured/caged animals do not fit into this category

Posed people/family shots do not fit into this category. People should be incidental to, rather than the focus of, the image unless they are doing something amazing (surfing, skiing, skateboarding, hiking, mountain climbing, and etc.) and the image also contains a significant amount of open land or water.

Skyscapes (sun, moon, and/or clouds) also do not fit into this category, unless the photo also includes a significant scenic portion of California -- land, rivers, oceans, mountains, creeks, and etc.--as the focus.

Silhouettes--If the only view of the landscape is in silhouette or deep shadow, it is not a scenic view of the land and defeats the purpose of this group.

Videos--We welcome this new Flickr feature and encourage members to add their clips displaying the Beauty of California to the group pool.

Images must be scenic or picturesque with postcard-like appeal--
Definition of Scenic--of or relating to natural scenery.


Light photo correcting/filtering is acceptable to achieve postcard appeal. However, the image must retain a natural appearance and not appear overworked, harsh, or stark.

Note: HDR, DRI, or other heavy manipulations that renders an image to a degree that appears unnatural, is not acceptable for this group.

Please post your HDR or DRI photos in the appropriate pools:

HDR group pool, DRI group pool, or any of the many groups specifically designated for manipulated images.

Black & White, Sepia Toned Images, or Creatively Colored Images do not fit in this Group. However, there are many other groups on Flickr where these photos may be displayed.

Title, Caption, and Tags
Please clearly indicate where the photograph was taken in the title, caption, and/or tags along with anything else that may be of interest to the viewer. Write clear and accurate tags. Tag spamming is not permitted.

Images that are not relevant to the Group will be subject to removal. Please do not resubmit them. Instead forward private inquiries or questions to the Administrator via Flickr mail.

This is a family friendly group. Therefore your Photostream must be rated "Safe" by Flickr to join. Nudity, semi-nudity, or sensationalism of any kind is not permitted.


The Group Guidelines are subject to revision as deemed necessary by the images submitted to the pool. Please review them periodically.
