National Academy of Art was founded as the first compreh-ensive art academy in China on the bank of the Wesk Lake in Hangzhou by Mr.Cai Yuanpei, arenowned Chinese educator, with as its first President Mr.Lin Fengmian.

Since its foundation, the name and the location of the Academy have been changed several times: from the National Academy of Art, Hangzhou National College of Art, the National College of Art, the National College of Art, East-China Campus of Central Academy of Fine Arts, Zhejiang Acade-my of Fine Arts to the present China National Academy of Art. For several generations, a large number of talen-ted artists renowned at home and abroad have gathered or studied at the Academy.
