26 Oct 07 - Welcome to the flickr site for fans of Ralph Erskine's Byker Redevelopment, Newcastle upon Tyne, in North East England. This icon of 20th Century architecture incorporating the famous 'Byker Wall' is Ralph's largest and most complex project and was developed between 1969 and 1982. Although we have set the site up with the thoughts of us residents in mind, we also hope that all of you fans who unfortunately cannot live here can also join us to celebrate this masterpiece of architecture.

About The Byker Redevelopment

The flickr site for all admirers and residents of this iconic 20th century social housing development in Newcastle upon Tyne, England.

Designed by a team led by the Anglo-Swedish architect Ralph Erskine (1914-2005).

It is a beacon of hope for all that is good about architecture: colourful design, on a human scale, sensitive to the climate, considerate about its location, a variety of housing types, private gardens, high rise and low rise, public spaces, pedestrian priority, close to local shops, 1 mile for the city centre, and a short walk to the Newcastle Quayside, served well by buses and a light rail system.

What more could we want?
