History:
The Bangalore Weekend Shoots was started in May 2006 by a handful of friends who share a passion for photographing street life, people and the culture of the Bangalore city. As the shoots grew increasingly addictive and as more and more friends were interested in being a part of the group they decided to have an online presence on flickr to discuss and coordinate forthcoming shoots and to write reports.
They collectively support and work towards documenting the various facets of the city and its people. One of the first areas of interest was to capture the life and the environment at the many traditional markets, a work that is still ongoing. Short trips around the city and sometimes longer ones are also occasionally organized keeping photography as the primary motive.
The present group is a mix of both professionals and amateurs. However professional equipment is not a necessity to be a part of BWS. The present members are encouraged to post their pictures from the weekend shoots; suggest the next week’s venue or even plan a small weekend photographic trip. Any discussion to do with photography in general and Bangalore in particular is welcome.

A Rough Guide:
1. Post photographs only from the 'BWS' shoots. Please do not post pictures to the group's pool from your private shoots (even if there are the same subjects as the previous weekend shoot). However you are free to open a discussion thread (with the pictures, if you may desire so) letting people know of your latest ventures. Currently there is no limit on the number of pictures that the members may post. However 5 per day would be a good number to abide by.
2. As members you need not wait for the moderators to announce the shoot for the weekend. You may go ahead and post your photographic plans or suggestions for the week/weekend, if you have any. You are most likely to have some great company during the shoot. The group has had more than one shoot happening on certain weekends.
3. Please try to make it to at least one shoot in three months. If not, the moderators do have the right to remove you from the group without prior notification. They also reserve the right to remove inappropriate pictures from the group's pool and the members who post them, without prior notification. Any sort of request, a case of misunderstanding or discrepancy may be addressed to the Admin directly.
If you would like to be a part of the group please send us a request stating briefly your photographic interest and explaining your desire to be a part of this particular group. You could also directly join us on the shoots which are usually notified a couple of days ahead on the announcement panel of BWS page, viewable even to the non-members. It would be great to meet you in person and then relate to you online.
Present moderators:
PeeVee : : Venkatesan, an advertising professional who defines the group’s photographic enthusiasm. If he is not headed towards his hometown Pondichery he surely is out there shooting over the weekend. He simply refuses to stick to one kind of photography which is best described experimental.
@k@sh : : Akash Bhattacharya, a Bengali residing in Bangalore, is an IT professional, who loves to take deliberately casual/candid approach while photographing anything & everything under the sun. He is "always online' and ready to capture the present for future.
Vinayak Das : : Another talented photographer, Vinayak is a Bengali who takes his photography just as seriously as he does his cup of chai. He is forever ready to organize the weekend shoots and never ceases to get back with fine images. He tests recreational and entertainment equipment for a living.
Lavannya : : Freestyle street photography at its boldest and finest. She enjoys shooting life that is raw, candid and complex and loves to connect with people all along her way. She practices sustainable architecture as her main profession.
Sandeep: : Out there, looking for fine art even in the most mundane and bizarre of situations. His approach to photography is laden with curiosity and inquisitiveness. He is right now traveling somewhere in India, thankfully reachable on his BSNL mobile.
Dr Vivek M : : An India fanatic, loves people photography and prides in re-discovering his own backyard. He is a documentary and editorial photographer and his pictures have appeared in the Gulf News, Tehelka, Outlook Traveller Guides and the Housecalls magazine among others. He enjoys working with the Time Out, Bengaluru as a staff photographer.
