About Bute Park

Bute park is an easily accessible 56 hectare green haven in the heart of the city. It is flanked by the River Taff, Sophia gardens, Pontcanna Fields and Cardiff Castle. Very few cities can boast such an extensive and diverse green area at its centre.
The Arboretum, created in 1947 contains a mix of interesting and ornamental trees. Many of these are champion trees, the biggest examples of their species in the UK. A renowned herbaceous border runs alongside the River Taff

Cardiff Council are currently undertaking a £5.6 million restoration project which will help to restore some of the important historic features within the park, provide new facilities for visitors and tell the story of the park and the people who helped to create it.
