Join different pieces with attached Velcro dots, following the examples of garments in the galleries or your own imagination, and try them on the male or female dress forms to design your own expressive fashion garments. Take a picture with your digital camera and send the image to buildagarment@textilemuseum.ca and we will post it on our online and in-gallery bulletin boards.

About Build a Garment

The Cutting Edge exhibition focuses on the shape of a garment, and what it signifies. The exhibition features garments from the Textile Museum of Canada’s collection in conversation with contemporary objects that range from the haute couture of Issey Miyake and Yoshiki Hishinuma, to the fashion designs of Rashmi Varma and Yumi Eto, and the work of artists Lyn Carter and Lily Yung.

Visitors to the Museum can explore our interactive Build a Garment space. At Build a Garment, you can try putting components together to design expressive fashion garments by joining different pieces by means of the attached Velcro dots, following the examples of garments in the galleries or your own imagination, and try them on the male or female dress forms.

When you are satisfied with your creation, take a picture with your digital camera. Send the image to buildagarment@textilemuseum.ca and we will post it on our Build a Garment Flickr site and in-gallery bulletin boards.
