About Brum Type

Birmingham is unquestionably the UK’s premier typographic city. Birmingham was – and still is – home to John Baskerville: writing master, stone-carver, type-founder, printer, paper-maker, ink-producer and creator of ‘Baskerville’ the world’s most well-known and enduring typeface. However, Birmingham’s claim to typographic fame does not simply lie with the bones of Baskerville and for three centuries the spirit of this typographic mastermind has touched generations of the city’s designers and survives in the work of today’s Midland’s typographic community. This blog, in tribute to John Baskerville, not only commemorates a local hero with a worldwide reputation but celebrates Birmingham’s position on the typographic stage.
