About Brooklyn, The City Of Churches

Brooklyn has been known as the borough of churches probably since the time it was incorporated as a city in the 1830s. The Brooklyn Daily Eagle refers to it as such from their start in 1941. While Brooklyn was merely the northwestern portion of the county of Kings at that the time the proliferation of religious institutions in the what is now the Borough of Brooklyn continues today.

While Protestant denominations made up the majority of religious institutions in Kings County in the 19th century today we find ourselves representative of the global diversity of religious expression. We are still the borough of churches, but we have temples, mosques and other religious structures here as well. Let's document them all here. With the sheer numbers of these edifices we should be quite busy photographing all of them.
