About British Cars 1945 - 1975The golden era of British motoring, when brands such as Austin, Morris, Hillman and Vauxhall were conquering lands as far away as Africa, Asia, Australia, and New Zealand. Many even found their way to North America, where those with a fondness for 'real' compact cars (the Plymouth Valiant and Chevrolet Corvair were not compact in the European sense of the word) discoved the joys of motoring in Morris Minors and Minis, Minx convertibles and Pontiac Envoys (a rebadged Vauxhall Victor). In Japan, many people had their first motoring experiences in Hinos and Nissans that were derived from British stalwards. And in India, mass motoring pretty began with the humble Morris Ten and the series III Oxford (and later the Triumph Herald and the Vauxhall Victor). |
