About Boro Park
Photographs of Boro Park, past and present. Before and after pictures taken from the same vantage point especially welcome. Religious gatherings, children enjoying a sunny day, old pictures of relative in Boro Park who survived the dark, terrible days of the war.
I am a Roman Catholic who grew up in Boro Park on 13th Avenue and 57th Street. I remember shopping at Waldbaum's, Linick's going to Mr. Lipschitz Coin Store on 49th. my Grandfather had a spot inside The Poor People's market on 13th avenue. I often was called to turn off lights on Fridays and Saturdays by my neighbors. My Grandparents came to America in 1923 from Sicily. They only stayed in Manhattan for a year before permanently moving to a Boro Park apartment on 53rd and New Utrecht Avenue. In 1944 they bought a Large Dutch home at 1301 - 57th St. Razed in 1985, a supplementary Maimonedies hospital building now stands there.
