About blueprint photography
blueprint photography: an alternative photographic process which utilizes a readily available source of light sensitive material(blueprint paper) to create images/photographs with unique qualities and characteristics.
methods: exposing blueprint paper in a camera(up to 6 hours), enlarging images onto blueprint paper using a slide projector, contact printing of existing photographs onto blueprint paper, photograms, shadowgrams, etc.
process: after exposing blueprint paper, regardless of the method, it is developed in ammonia fumes.
blueprint photography is different from cyanotype. although they may look similar, cyanotype is a negative based process. contact prints are made from negatives to create a positive image. on the contrary, blueprint photography is a positive based process. a positive image creates a positive images. contact prints can be made from existing photographs, slides, color transparencies. also, because blueprint photography is a positive based process, any blueprint paper exposed in a camera as a "negative" does not need to be reveresed. it is a positive images directly out of the camera.
