About an ode to Blossfeldt
Karl Blossfeldt (1865-1932) ,was a German Photographer/Artist/ Scientist who published his Botanical Photographs in the 1930's, as reference of sorts, for others to study nature.
His tonal values and lighting were more than superb.
Karl Blossfeldt taught sculpture in Germany, and he used his remarkable photographs of plant studies to educate his students about design elements in nature. Blossfeldt's photographs were made with a homemade camera that could magnify the subject up to thirty times its actual size.
By doing so he revealed extraordinary details within the natural structure of the plants.
In the process he created some of the most innovative photographic work of his time.
The simple yet expressive forms captured on film affirmed his boundless artistic and intellectual ability.
His seminal book was titled "Urformen der Kunst" published in 1928.
At the time Blossfeldt was 63 years old and teaching Applied Art at the Berliner Kunsthochschule, "Urformen der Kunst" quickly became an international bestseller and in turn made Blossfeldt famous almost overnight.
This Groups aim is to pay homage to ol' Karl Blossfeldt and his body of work.
You'll note that the images are predominately Black and White, with many other Sepia toned. It's really hard for me to see this Group accept color images of botanical objects.
I trust that you will agree.
