The study on SA (Sebaceous Adenitis) continues to need participants. When Dah was dx'd almost 2 years ago, we were only the 4th or 5th to sign up. It is now close to TWO YEARS later and they only have 50 Affected SA in the study. This is an unacceptable number. Here is an update and request for more people with SA Poodles to step up and take part. Link to do so is at the bottom. If you have an SA Affected Poodle, or know soneone who does, PLEASE take part! Cross post, pass on!
I have heard from Dr. Pedersen, the researcher working on the Sebaceous Adenitis problem in Standard Poodles at UC Davis. They are currently working off samples on 50 SA affected dogs.
50 samples is a pathetic number. They need 4 times that many samples or more. Although they prefer blood samples, they are willing to take cheek swabs if that will bump up the numbers. The link below will take you to the UCDavis website where you can request cheek swabs to be sent to your home. There is also a form which can be printed and filled out and included with the cheek swabs. Dr. Pedersen also appreciates pedigrees if possible; copies of pedigrees from pp.com or the PHR are perfectly fine.
All this can be done in the privacy of your home. You do not need to make a vet appointment to do cheek swabs. No one will know if you are the breeder or owner of an SA-affected dog. This is NOT a witch hunt.
We all profess to love these dogs. If that is true, then we have to help these researchers to help our dogs. This guy is onto something, but he needs our help. We can make a difference.
