About Birmingham - Victoria Square

Victoria Square stands at the junction of 3 streets; New Street, Paradise Street and Colmore Row. After the Council House was built in the 1870s it was known as Council House Square. It became Victoria Square after the arrival of the statue of Queen Victoria in 1901.

Between August 1992 and June 1993, Victoria Square was completely redesigned at a cost of £3.2 million. Only the statue of Queen Victoria remains in its original location. The square was re-opened by Diana, the Princess of Wales on 6 May 1993.

The square is also the site of Birmingham's Town Hall, and several civic centre works of art, including the Iron Man and the ' Floozie in the Jacuzzi' ...

This group is for photo's that show off Victoria Square at its best, or at its worst: come Spring, Summer, Autumn or Winter. Photo's of the buildings, public sculptures, civic events, visitors to the Council House, families on vacation, or local Brummies enjoying a spot of sunshine, are all welcomed. Only requirement is that a submitted photo must clearly identify itself with the Victoria Square location.

Anyway, if you are a visitor to Birmingham, "Welcome" - we Brummies are proud of our community, it's traditions, industrial heritage and hope that you enjoy your visit to this area. Please feel free to comment on your photo's: perhaps tell the pool what you did, what you saw and maybe why you were there. Equally, if there was something you disliked about Victoria Square, for example: the rubbish, loud noise or inappropriate behaviour - get it off your chest and climb onto your soapbox here! Obviously, this pool is being promoted as a safe, family-friendly site and is being moderated.
