November 12th, 12pm - General Flickrmeet

view profile

Pete Ashton is a group administrator Pete Ashton  Pro User  says:

Note: We've changed the time to 12 noon for the winter.

The general Birmingham Flickrmeet for November will, again, be at Coffee Lounge, 10/11 Navigation Street (map) at 12 noon. Given the numbers who turn up to these things we'll be downstairs where there's more room.

Needless to say, all are welcome.

If the weather is good we can go off on an impromptu walk around the city centre taking photos. If it's not so good, which to be honest is more likely, we can stay in the cafe to talk about lenses and hopefully more interesting subjects. It'll also be a chance to plan future Flickrmeets.

If you're planning to come please leave a quick note in this thread so we can get an idea of numbers.

If you can't make this one the next will be December 10th.

Its Rememberance Sunday too, Im sure there might be some interesting and emotive shots to be had at the peace garden and/or war memorial in the morning should anyone be around.

If you do go to the lips Gareth I'll be in the crowd coughing as well. I appear to have the Brum version of SARS. I'm thinking that I should bring a megaphone to cough into or perhaps borrow their big bubble to avoid contaminating the crowd.

nobody knows anything is a group administrator nobody knows anything says:

I would like to purpose an idea for the meet up tomorrow and future get togethers. My concern is that now we've stopped investigating specific areas or doing planned walks we might lack focus. I would therefore suggest that each meeting has an overall theme. These themes could be as esoteric or as concrete as we liked.

For tomorrow I reckon Light might not be a bad idea. Metophorically there is a conection with Rememberance Sunday, Diwali the festival of light is tomorrow and there are the xmas lights.

In other news, the weather forcast for tomorrow, according to the BBC, is a big white cloud and so a walk about is highly likely.

excellent idea *AI*,
I'm hoping I can make it - might be a bit late.
As far as weather goes - what weather would actually stop people from taking photos ? (with an unbrella, or waterproof jacket I'd still be on for taking pictures in the rain - perhaps my DSLR might be left in my bag, and I think snow would be great for photos, might have to get some of those fingerless gloves though)

I tihnk the weather will be OK (it's alternativing between gloriously autumnal and autumnal-grey today). Realistically though if it's raining I'll probably be stopping indoors. A bit of light rain is OK (the D200 is weather-sealed) but I'm a bit more precious about the lenses.

Pete Ashton is a group administrator Pete Ashton  Pro User  says:

Good idea for a theme. Alongside that, can folk have a think about what direction we might head from the cafe? No need to plan a good route or anything and it can be somewhere we've been before.

Pesonally I'm quite keen on the tops of car parks, but then I don't drive so this is a novelty for me. ;)

Weather wise I'm thinking 35mm compact if it's raining. Of course there's no reason why some people can't brave the rain for a bit while others stay in the cafe.

If we're going to have a theme (I like the idea, btw) why not have an informal 'shot of day' competition? Everyone submits their best picture from the day and everyone then votes. The winner will get bugger all except ultimate respect from the rest of the gang ;-)

Car Parks - I second this, after last months meet we picked up ALs car in the car park by Snow Hill - fantastic view and empty car parks are well cool.

"I thought Diwali was last month. 21st or something?"

No, it's tomorrow. There's a big bash up centenary square.
www.istc.org/sisp/index.htm?fx=event&event_id=105767

We could even head up in that direction. Would be good for Matt's failing light shots and there are even a couple of car parks.

AARGH! I'm so pissed off. I missed the first train and then by the time I got to the coffee shop I'd missed you guys as well. Damnit! As a consolation I went to Yo sushi in Selfridges.

It was a beautiful day, I hope everyone had a good meetup. Next time I'll take someone's number along with me just in case.

See you next month.
