The Birmingham Photospace Group are looking for an alternative image of Birmingham to use on their giveaway postcard.
We are asking for local photographers (or even non-local photographers with good images of Birmingham!) to submit an image which they think best represents the Birmingham we live and work in.
Are you as tired of the photos of the Selfridges building as we are? Can you show the other side of Birmingham? Do you want your image to be seen by lots of locals?
A few details, then.
HOW DO I ENTER?
Entry is free and easy. Just tag your image with "anything but selfridges" in your own photostream. A word on this - make sure you're tagging with 'anythingbutselfridges' or using the quotation marks "anything but selfridges" or we may miss your entry.
Yes, you may enter more than one image. We'll enjoy looking at all of them. Please - no nudity or other inappropriate material - or photos of the Selfridges building!
WHEN IS THE CLOSING DATE?
Judging will take place (by a panel made up from within the Birmingham Photospace Group) on Monday 26th of January. All images should be tagged by 10am on 26/1/09. The panel's decision is final.
THE *WHAT* GROUP?
The Birmingham Photospace Group! We're a group of volunteers (photographers, professional and amateur, as well as civillians!) who are looking to raise funding for and open a world class venue for photography in Birmingham. We're planning lots of events over the coming year to raise awareness and show off the great photographers we have in Birmingham.
WHAT DO I WIN?
We'd love to use your image on a postcard which will 'advertise' the aims of the group. We're hoping for charitable status, and we will never SELL the postcards with your image on - just give them out as fliers. We will print a small run and start using them at our first 'Flash Event' which we will be announcing in the next week! (It's being planned for March...once the weather gets a bit better!)
AND NOW, THE LEGAL BIT
We are asking you to give us permission to reproduce your image on a postcard which we will then distribute. We are asking you to agree to do this without payment. We are relying on all photographers to ensure they have model release if appropriate.
Someone more clever than me has explained this thus:
By submitting this image into the '/Anything But Selfriges/' competition
I certify that I own the copyright to these images and I have the right
to distribute them. I understand that I retain all copyright
ascertaining to the work however I also give my permission for
Birmingham Photospace and its members to reproduce and display the work
in any form, whether electronically or in print on a purely
non-commercial basis, as long as each image is suitably credited.
Do keep an eye on our blog, and on our Facebook page (do join, too!) You can find that here.
