Flickr's Director of Community Coming To Birmingham

view profile

melkins says:

Just want to share with you that Heather Champ, Flickr's Director of Community, will be flying over from San Francisco to take part in an on-stage interview (In Conversation with Heather Champ, Director of Community at Flickr) as part of Hello World - Birmingham's international digital conference. It's all part of Hello Digital.

If anyone wants to come along to it, the event is free and it's going to be at the Thnk Space at Millennium Point on Friday, 24 October. Her session is at 2.30pm and it lasts for about an hour. Her session is followed by In Conversation with Michal Makerewicz, Pixar Animation Studios. so, if there are any Pixar fans out there, this event is free to attend as well.

You can book through the Hello World site.

Hope you're all well.
:)

Ok... so this is weird. I was searching for a Birmingham group and found this existing topic.

I'm very much looking forward to my upcoming trip. I've been to different parts of the UK before (my parents were English -- the moved to Canada before I was born), but never to Birmingham.

It looks like I have a free day on Saturday (10/25), and I was wondering if anyone was up for a photo wander?

Heh ... er, hi Heather *shuffles feet awkwardly* we weren't talking about you, honest...

Seriously, glad to hear you're looking forward to the trip - we're really looking forward to the Hello Digital thingy!

Can't speak for everyone, but I'm around for most of the day on Saturday 25th and I'm sure others will be up for a photo wander too. Will you be staying in the city centre?

how fitting that Flickr's community director suggests a Flickrmeet. That's pretty much how I've met a bunch of you.
Booked my space at HelloDigital and will be around in town on Sat as I'm doing some shooting at Festibull (an opportunity that arose through Flickr).
See you all at both events.
You'll find us a friendly bunch Heather.

I'd love to be there but I'm at a wedding... BUT

I suggest a tour of the centre of Birmingham taking in a handful of the best (and perhaps underrated and interesting) parts of our fair city.

What would be the top three must-visit places within walking distance from the Town Hall?

I would suggest somewhere around town and then heading up to St Pauls Square/ Jewelry Quarter that's always filled with goodness.

Shall we meet in the underpass (the one with the coloured lanterns) opposite the Mailbox? The Mailbox should be easy for Heather to find from whichever hotel she's staying in.

I like the St Pauls Square / Jewellery Quarter idea - and the walk there from the Mailbox should allow us to take in Victoria Square (town hall, council house, BMAG, library etc) without getting too mangled in Saturday shopping centre hell.

As for a time - can I suggest 12.00?

Are there any places still left for the talk? If so I may try and get the afternoon off. I got an impromptu min flickrmeet on Sunday, so heck why not make a long weekend of it?

What's the weather doing this week?

Hi Lee,
Yes, there are still places left for Heather's on stage interview and there's also still space on the Pixar one (it follows Heather's gig). You can book through Hello World. There are nearly 200 people attending!

If you're meeting by the Mailbox, I'd start out through the Mailbox, along the canal through Gas St Basin, Under Broad St, cross the footbridge by the bandstand, through the ICC, across Centenary Square, Paradise Forum, Chamberlain Square and Victoria Square - That gives a fairly good cross-section of Birmingham "Public spaces" and contasting Architecture. Then Victoria Square - St Pauls, possibly via the Cathedral - the foot bridge over Gt Charles St and up Ludgate Hill?

A 12:00 Start sounds good. Hopefully those of us Festibulling can at least start off with you, though we may peel off to head down to the Bullring.

Right then I shall have to charge the batteries, can't promise to make it to the talk because of work but I'll deffo make it down on Saturday, have been caught up with other stuff recently so am feeling the urge to snap some more autumn-ness.

Tim, sounds like a good route.

Oh the confusion, do we add to this pool or flickr meet pool?
Posted 44 months ago. (permalink)

tim ellis is a group administrator tim ellis  Pro User  says:

The pictures could be added to either pool. We try to keep Flickrmeet pictures in the Flickrmeet pool to avoid flooding the General Birmingham pool (My personal rule of thumb is to just add Flickrmeet pictures to the Birmingham Pool where I feel them particularly representative of Birmingham, and then only a handful).

Please Tag pictures posted to the Flickrmeet pool bfm-heather
