I just wanted to thank you guys for producing BLFS and also to those brave enough to contribute pictures (currently I'm not) and asking questions.

I'm learning heaps from viewing pictures, reading discussions and listening to podcasts (still got a few to catch up on). What I really like is the brutal honesty that you supply about photos and photography. Seeing "great shot" or the like on photo comments doesn't help me. The honesty opened my eyes and helped me look more critically at shots and what makes good ones. (Pity I can't translate that to my own work yet.) As you've mentioned its "not just freezing the action" . Because of your help I've started to implement many things you've mentioned including pushing the boundaries of where I set up (yep I've been told to move a couple of times now by officials). :) So thanks guys and I hope you keep it going.

Finally thanks to those putting yourself out there for the brutal criticism.
Cheers Steve

Steve-

Thanks for the post, we appreciate you taking the time to write in. It's good that you're thinking about our suggestions and advice, but you need to get in there and participate in Training Ground.

I'll have a post on the blog by Monday morning about why this is so important.

Gotta agree with Matt, you learn so much from errors that you completely miss the bruises to your ego, and if they do like it, you certainly get a big ego boost from that. Photography is much like sport - very dependent on your own confidence, as well as the knowledge stuff you pick up from mistakes...

Steve,

I'm glad you have welcomed your masochistic side and are now invested in becoming a better sports photographer. Matt and I both get a kick out of thrashing a photo or two, but as people have said it, we do it because we love you. I believe there is no point in us telling you that your shots are wonderful when it should be left in a gutter somewhere in Bangkok.

As you develop a thick skin to take our criticism and then put them into practice for your next shoot, you will become a better photographer.

But please don't take our jobs. :)
