23 Feb 08 - Welcome new members! First challenge is underway here. A good general guideline for the pool is that your subject's face should take up less than a quarter of the frame. Please police yourself.

About Beyond Headshots

A place for discussions on how to make an interesting portrait that goes beyond headshots. That's not to say this is a headshot bashing group, because it's not. I love headshots because I have a fascination with the eyes. This group is my attempt to help myself and others to not rely on headshots exclusively.

Topics of interest:
Environmental portraits
Building layers of interest in a photograph
Relating your subject to the background
Using the background to guide the eye to your subject
Telling a story with a photograph

Feel free to post images to the pool that meet the following guidelines:
- No nudity here. Please keep everything worksafe.
- All photos must contain a person or persons in the photo that is a major subject point. We're not doing headshots, but it should still be a portrait.
- Your subject's face should generally take up less than a quarter of the frame.
