thanks.
why samurai sword is not martial arts?
originally, martial arts have been designed to replace the system based on weapon, using skills teached in a school.
there are taekwondo (korean),ji-jutsu,karate,judo (japanese), and also aikido (founded in the 19th century).
but generally, styles and moves can be developed from more than one martial arts category.
it is questionable if wrestling is a martial art, the WWF show-wrestling maybe is not strictly a martial art. however, sumo is seen by some japanese as no.1 national sports, and technically counts as martial art.

samurai and ninja skills are not, even if they also can use martial arts moves, martial arts.
for instance, in "the hero", a movie, there is a little explanation about the topic. even music and game playing can shape martial arts, traditionally in asian countries, not everyone was allowed to learn writing, and the "kalligraphy" was very disciplined.
i have created this group...because it was hard to find good japanese groups to join. it is not good to look down on other martial arts (rule from korean taekwondo), but when people become administrator for many others, it is appreciate to question oneself a bit...are i am a good example?
if you do any martial arts, you should always apply this principle. if you do not feel good, do not do it!
for this reason, please refrain from over-expression of commercial wrestling, tattoos, unreasonable violence and the like.

my own background is that from young age on, i was interested in korean teakwondo, simply because there was a dojo in the urban neighbourhood. later, my interest shifted to japan, which is practizing judo and karate most likely.
but i would not feel good about "dropping" taekwondo in favour of "judo", "karate" or others...
