Welcome to "Best of Animals" pool!

When BEST OF ANIMALS was started, it was intended that this group accumulate photos of the very best WILD animals we could glean on Flickr. While Zoo images were not ruled out, only the VERY BEST Zoo shots, those without bars or man made objects, were foremost in mind as acceptable. We, the administrators, have been a bit remiss in not enforcing this concept however so many images of a "snapshot" nature have been submitted that it has become necessary to make clear what was initially intended when this group was founded.

This group was created for WILD ANIMAL images in their native habitat. High quality ZOO shots will be allowed IF they fall under the guidelines for WILD ANIMALS. Only ZOO images that depict the animal/bird etc. so as to not show any distracting human elements or confines of a cage, will be accepted.

Please be your own worst critic. Images of animals or birds from the rear or images where bits and pieces of a jumbled mass of animals dangle into the image are not wanted nor will they be accepted. Also images where lots of out of focus things such as branches appear in front of the main subject insure non-acceptance. Every image needs a tiny bit of post processing as it is impossible to change light into pixels without some loss of quality. Look at what others have posted, judge accordingly and learn. We do not want every photo taken on a trip to be posted here, nor do we want images dumped into the group without judicious cropping if distracting elements are present. Please cherry pick and give us your best images, the ones that make us all suck wind! Thanks for your understanding. Any group with "BEST" in the title is looking for just that, the best images.

These then are the RULES as they now apply:

- Only WILD ANIMALS in their natural habitat or the highest quality ZOO images will be allowed. ONLY THE HIGHEST QUALITY ZOO SHOTS, PLEASE! Don't cut off feet, tails, ears or other crucial and intergral parts to the photo. Don't clutter the image with bits and pieces of animals that don't belong!
- NO FERAL species
- NO DOMESTIC ANIMALS/PETS
- NO insects or reptiles. This means NO SNAKES!
- NO MAN MADE OBJECTS, not even in the background
- NO DEAD animals, NO blood and gore
- NO Bird houses or bird feeders PLEASE
- DESCRIPTIONS ARE NECESSARY AND REQUIRED AND MUST BE ADDED TO YOUR IMAGES. For example, a title like _DCS0398, can leave us all guessing and means nothing to the beholder nor adds quality to the Group. Images without titles will not be approved.
- POST PROCESSING in the digital age is as much a part of the image as pushing the shutter release. Please tidy up your images, remove bits and pieces of animals/birds etc. Touch out dust spots. Display your images to their advantage.
