11 Jan 09 - Well, I really seem to have set myself an impossible task... I just can't keep it down to 30 whatever I do! There are so many beautiful portraits and it's impossible to say one is better than another. What to do?
Thanks everyone for your amazing contributions - the standard is incredibly high!

About The 30 Best Portraits on Flickr - Ever!
Anyone can add photos - only I can delete.
The plan is that the group stays at 30 - that's one full page of photos. Every time it goes over 30 I will remove photos until its back to 30.
All photos must be portraits of people. I will be fairly flexible on my interpretation of 'portrait' - but the idea is that it's a photographic representation of a person. The most successful will be aesthetically pleasing and will also express something more than just physical about the subject/sitter. It will transcend just pure image.
If a photo joins the group and it is better than one already in the group then the inferior photo will be removed, and if the new photo is inferior then it will be removed.
All decisions will be mine and so will be highly subjective, but I welcome any discussions - just please keep them friendly.
This is intended as a showcase for your portraits, but also as a learning tool - what makes an excellent portrait? (discussions on this also welcomed)
Please join me!
If you have joined then welcome!
To track what has been in this group, when you add your portrait it would be helpful if you add the tag "30bpe" (short for Best Portraits - Ever!)
Group icon is from the incredible famous portrait of an Afghani girl by Steve McCurry. It is of course copyright but I figure being the icon for the best portrait ever is a compliment and good publicity (not that he needs either). If John or his people object it will of course be removed immediately. Thanks.
