About Highly Competitive - Flickr's 100 Best B&W

Highly Competitive - Flickr's 100 Best B&W has the aim to host the 100 best Black & White Photos on Flickr [whatever that means ;-)] and be an active group. By means of "one-on-one challenges" the photos in this pool are repeatedly viewed from different angles until they are replaced by better ones. The intention is to provide a fun, respectful mechanism for constructive critisicm.

If you want to submit a Colour Photo, you should challenge a photo in the pool of Highly Competitive - Flickr's 100 Best.

Submitting a Photo

1) Please take the time to visit the challenge threads to see which challenges are outstanding and vote on some challenges in the pool. Others in the group take the time to comment and vote for yours, please take some time and return the favor.

ALL voting takes place in the challenger's comment area, NOT the defender's. The votes are cumulative.

if you like the challenger's picture more, vote: oneof100bw #1,2,3,4 or 5.

if you like the defender's picture more, vote: noneof100bw #1,2,3,4 or 5.

2) - choose a photo you want to challenge --- (make sure this photo is already accepted and has this comment: "Congratulations, this photo has been accepted in the pool of Highly Competitive - Flickr's 100 Best B/W . This status can be contested!" somewhere in its comments!)

3) - paste your challenge by writing something like "This photo is challenging URL (from the main page) of the photo you want to challenge from the pool of Highly Competitive - Flickr's 100 Best B/W - www.flickr.com/groups/best100bw/. Vote me in!" in the comment below your photo.

4) - submit your photo to this pool. Please vote on at least 5 (!) remaining challenges in the pool (or whatever is available)

ALL voting takes place in the challenger's comment area, NOT the defender's. The votes are chronological.

In order for your vote to count, it is required that constructive, substantive comments accompany your vote i.e. why you prefer the challenger's and not the defender's or vice versa.

The Rules

* Not more than TWO submissions per challenge thread!

* Every new entry has to challenge a specific photo from the pool!

* The challenger has to point out the picture from the existing pool that he/she wants to challenge in a specific comment below his/her picture including a URL reference to the picture!.

* Only one challenge at the time. If the photo you want to challenge is currently already challenged by another new entry, choose an alternative photo or wait until the first challenge is over (before posting).

* The challenger can give an explanation why he/she chose the specific challenge and why he/she thinks his/her shot makes the greater photo.

* Anybody is free to discuss the challenge in the comments below the new aspiring photo and vote. The challenger must take the time to vote and comment on other pending contributions!

* The vote will either be "("1of100bw #1" into the pool of Highly Competitive - Flickr' 100 Best B/W)" if the new photo should replace the former one" or "noneof100bw" for "no way, get your photo out of here". There is no need for tagging, but each vote should be numbered successively (e.g. "1of100bw #1/ noneof100bw #1, ... ").

* The challenge is over with 5 equal votes! If five votes are against a new entry, this photo will be removed from the pool by the group of admins as soon as possible. The same photo is allowed to challenge another photo in this pool after a month.


Standard Comments

If five votes are in favour of a new entry, this new photo is going to be accepted in the pool and will receive the comment:

"This photo has been accepted in the pool of Highly Competitive - Flickr's 100 Best B/W . This status can be contested!"

Photos in the pool that are challenged by a new entry will be informed by the following note:

"Your picture is currently contested in the pool of Highly Competitive - Flickr's 100 Best B/W!"

Photos in the pool that have won a challenge will get the following remarks:

"Congratulations! You have won your FIRST/ SECOND ... competition in the pool of Highly Competitive - Flickr's 100 Best B/W . This status can be contested!"

Photos from the pool which lose a challenge will be removed from the pool and receive the comment:

"This photo was in the pool of Highly Competitive - Flickr's 100 Best B/W but has been successfully challenged".
