About Varanasi/Benares
this group is about the oldest unchanged for the most, pilgrimage city on earth. Its aura is unique, and no one fails to fall under its spell. It is because it is as much spirit as it is a place. In Benares, "mythology becomes geography" as one author put it.
The group is to be seen also as a complement to the group Holy Ganges, so the requirement is to put an emphasis on its life, religious aspect, people and architecture. Yes, the Holy Ganges does not have to, but can be seen! But as long as one of the above aspects is clearly seen, so vistas of the ganges where the subject is confined to the river itself, where the mood is more important than the activities seen, should stay or belong to "Holy ganges".
