About Bell Lightbox: For the Love of Film

Bell Lightbox is now taking shape at the corner of King and John Streets in downtown Toronto.

This building will bring together the film-loving public, Canadian and international filmmakers, industry professionals, academia and visitors to Toronto from around the world to explore the power of cinema. Bell Lightbox is for you, and we want your perspective as we continue to move towards the opening of its doors.

The Bell Lightbox experience will celebrate and explore the power of cinema, of storytelling through images, and through this group we encourage you to join in this celebration. Grab your camera and head down to our building site. It changes every day, and each of you will have a unique perspective of what this building means to you, to Toronto, and “For the Love of Film.”

Through photos and videos of the Bell Lightbox site, show us your love of film, what it means to you to have a building like this rising in Toronto. Be creative! Anything goes here, and we want you to explore the power of the image, so go ahead and get crazy. Evoke your favourite film or filmmaker in your picture, try and capture a certain time period or style of film, or just show us why you love film. What’s important is that there is a piece of YOU and your story in the photo or video, which will link you to Bell Lightbox as we document its history.

The work you submit will be reviewed by the Artistic team at Bell Lightbox. After the Toronto International Film Festival in September, they will select up to five images a week to display on the Bell Lightbox website, at www.belllightbox.ca.

Once a month we will select one photo from the Flickr group for purchase, archival preservation and for use in public exhibitions and commemorative literature.

Submitting Your Work
To submit a photograph or video, simply join this group and contribute your work anytime.

Submissions to the group are moderated, so it may take up to a day for your photograph to appear in the group.

Before You Add Your Work
1) Ensure that it includes the image of The Bell Lightbox Construction site at the corner of King and John streets in Downtown Toronto
2) Make sure that the date you took the photo is accurate please, so we can keep track of the progress, chronologically, through your work.
3) Try and show us your personal perspective through your work (be creative, show us your love for film, your excitement about the new building, what “home” means to you – you get the idea, anything’s possible)
