"De Morgen" stealing pics from Flickr

Dear all,

first: my apologies for not being able to write in your language. I hope English is OK.

My name is Fabian, I'm a journalist and photographer, living in Munich, Germany.

A very friendly Flickr fellow (Thanks, Joeri!) pointed me to the website of belgian newspaper "De Morgen", which published a special about the Burning-Man-Festival in Nevada, USA. To my big surprise I noticed that "De Morgen" took at least 17 copyright protected pictures of my Burning Man portfolio at Flickr and published them without credits, without my consent - and, of course, without paying decent royalities.

I should add that these pictures have been sold already to a German newspaper and two German broadcasters. I depend on being paid honestly for my work.

What upsets me even more is that "De Morgen" tried to depublish my work quick and silent after they were notified of the case - instead of admitting their mistake and negotiating fair royalities.

Here's my question to you: Did anyone in this Flickr group experience similar problems with "De Morgen" stealing content? If so, please let me know. I think this is a serious issue and given the fact that "De Morgen" stole my content in such big amounts there's a good chance other Flickr members were riped off as well.

Thanks for your help.

Best,
Fabian

I know that some newspapers "steel" pictures. Usually it's 1 or 2, but that many!! damn. I would try to get as much info as possible! like screenshots and links and contact the newspaper!

good luck!

Jayz3: I have Screenshots of 17 Pics on the "De Morgen" servers, 4 of them still embedded in the gallery popups (see one example linked in my post above). They began secretly depublishing virtually in the same moment when I was taking screenshots. I emailed "de Morgen" including all the screenshots and I'm still waiting for an answer.

I'll ask some friends of mine, maybe they know more about this.

I've mailed this to a photo editor of a competing newspaper that has a blog.

I would advise you to contac SOFAM who defends copyrights for photograpgers in Belgium. They will be able to answer your questions.

Only in Dutch or French but if you mail them or call, the wil answer in English, possibly in German.
