12 Jul 10 - Dear all,

Many thanks for all your photos. We are now officially closing the BeeID project for this year. I'd like to thank you all for your contributions over the last few weeks. However, please feel free to study each other's photos and if you can identify the bees, please add the appropriate tag (see seeing the results). I think this project has been very successful, and demonstrated the importance of social networks in collecting distribution data.
Please see the latest post for more.
Rick

About BeeID

This group aims to promote Bee ID, a project run by student volunteers, whereby members of the public are encouraged to upload photos of UK bees (Honeybees, bumblebees and solitary bees) to their Flickr account and "geotag" them to place them on a map (more information found at: www.beeguardianfoundation.org and www.flickr.com/groups/beeid/)

We are trying to use the data collected in this way to create maps of the geographical distribution and phenology of bees.

Brief instructions: Upload your photos to Flickr, and add them to this group.

Tag the photos BEEID2010, then add your photos to the Flickr map - in the location the photo was taken.

The project was run in 2010, unfortunately i don't think it will be running this year due to time considerations. For those interested in the scientific output of the project, a paper was published in PLoS ONE - see here: dx.doi.org/10.1371/journal.pone.0014381
