About Beeching Axe
A group dedicated to the repercussions of the "Beeching Axe" which resulted in the closure of a large part of the British railway system in the 1960's.
Please post your images of disused stations, the site of level crossings, memorabilia, re-opened stations, etc.
Please try to give as much detail as possible about your images and put them on the map too.
I realise that there is already a strong "Disused Railways" group: flickr.com/groups/disused_railways/ but I would like this group to be UK images only (obviously) and it would be nice to see images showing how things have changed since the Beeching era, including preserved lines, re-opened stations etc. So it needn't all be doom and gloom and atmospheric disused tunnels.
Please see the "Pre-Beeching Closures?" thread, flickr.com/groups/beeching_axe/discuss/72157594477248330/ for a discussion on the inclusion of fifties closures. Just stick in a bit of contextual information etc if you want to put them in the pool (e.g "Here is a photograph of the disused X station which was closed just before the Beeching cuts, but he probably would have closed it anyway if it had still been open because it only had three passengers using it a week.")
